I just got this game last week and it has been hard to put it down. I will admit though that there are some things i dont really like about it. The controls are kinda messed up. I am not really fond with the set up that way but it is still fun to play. The graphics are great but they have video shots that they replay alot. Also the starting difficulty Rookie is very easy. I played my first two games on Rookie and won 8-0 and 11-1. Bump it up one notch and it is pretty fun. Now I have not played NHL 08 so I can not compair the two, but NHL 2k8 is about 15-20 bucks cheaper on ebay and that is why i went 2k8.
The "prostick" is ultra fun. Basically, the prostick system let's you control your hockey stick via the right analog stick, alowing you to jungle the puck around, poke check or even hook other players. The game itself is really deep and has (I believe ) all the options games from other franchise could have! Only downside is that 2k9 is coming out next month and that the rosters of 2k8 are outaded but hey what can you do!
I had an original Xbox and loved NHL 2k5 and NHL 2k6, so when I bought an Xbox 360, I had to get the 2k version to play. I opted against 2k9, because reviews said the franchise system had a bug that caused the game to lock up and 2k Sports was not patching it (I only play franchise). While NHL 2k8 has everything I had with 2k5 and 2k6, they changed the controls. Now, you have to hit 2 buttons for a slap shot and it is much more difficult to control. Worse, you cannot change the control scheme. Aweful design. Considering 2k messed up 2k9 with the franchise bug, they are heading the wrong direction. I just picked up NHL 09 and it is much better. I recommend going with NHL 09.
Truthfully, I bought the game because my 2 1/2 year old son wanted me to get a hockey game for the Xbox. He enjoys watching it on TV, so he wanted me to get a game too. It is fun to play. I'm not really that great with the controller, so it is difficult to maximize the game experience that the game offers. Overall, I think it is a great game. It looks very realistic.
I enjoy playing the game, but there are some unrealistic traits, but it is a video games so that makes sense. I am little upset on how easy it is to score. This doesn't represent true hockey, and alot of the hits are over the top, but it makes it fun. I enjoy and will continue to play, but there is always room for impovement:)
You are going to find a bunch of EA Fanboys around bashing this new game. I just bought it and have found it great! The goalies and AI are enhanced and the gameplay is very fun. I have followed this series a long while and it is great! They even allow you to use 2k7 controls if you dont feel like adapting! i recommend this 100%. That being said 2008 is good in its own sense. A little slow for my liking but i find this one more fun.
Players get to control there favorite hockey team all the way from front office decisions down to minor league call ups. Manage your favorite team for a whole season, can't play that long custom lenght season availabe with full meun of choices of how you want to play your season. Great game lots of passing, shooting and checking from Hockey's biggest stars.
It's has very good graphics and gameplay.

Good hockey game

the game arrived safely and in perfect condition.I'd consider buying from them again. Personally though i prefer the NHL 2008 version for the PS2 better because you use both control sticks for everything, and it was hard to go back to using the buttons.
