  • St. Elsewhere: Whare the Heck am I?

I was blown away when I first saw the music video for Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." I couldn't stop singing along to "Smiley Faces", and "Daddy's Gone" had me mumbling the lyrics all day. HOWEVER, I was dissapointed to know that not only are these 3 singles the best songs on the album, but they beat the other songs by alot. I can't even imagine most of the songs on the album being released in a single. I got really hyped up when the music to the first track played and started to sing along once the next song, which was "Crazy", started to play. However, of the 14 songs on the album, I feel as though I only bought 5 of them. Cee Lo, the vocal part of Gnarls Barkley, has a very unique voice and it works to his advantage on some songs, but on others, it made me wonder why he was attempting them. ...

  • I'm not a hip-hop person, but I really like this CD!!

I heard "Crazy" on the radio and I thought that someone had remixed a Marvin Gaye song that I had never heard. The song sounds like old-school mo-town with a new-spin backtrack. I immediately went online and found out what I could about this song and the CD. Amazingly, I loved it. I say amazing because I do not like pop music; as a matter of fact, I don't like most current music. This CD has a few songs that are a bit too much for me, but over all I love the CD. Here is how I would break down the album. Fantastic Songs; those which make the album great - Crazy, St. Elsewhere, Smiley Faces, Just A Thought, Who Cares? Good Songs; those which fill out the album without destroying it - Go-Go Gadget Gospel, Gone Daddy Gone (a remake of a Violent Femmes song which I didn't care for, but ...

  • Gnarls Barkley - Surprise Hit CD of the Summer

Terrific. 5/5 Rating. Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere CD blew me away and really is the surprise hit of the summer. Gnarls Barkley brings a 70s funk to a hip hop world with some R&B flavor - overall a really eclectic, instrumental and twisted album. Each track is unique and each song has various movements and sounds. My particular favorites are Crazy (the one getting airplay), #5 Smiley Faces (great beat and tempo) and #7 Feng Shui (funky, intelligent, quick). 1. Go-Go Gadget Gospel 2. Crazy 3. St. Elsewhere 4. Gone Daddy Gone 5. Smiley Faces 6. Boogie Monster, The 7. Feng Shui 8. Just A Thought 9. Transformer 10. Who Cares? 11. On-Line 12. Necromancing 13. Storm Coming 14. Last Time, The

  • The best cd i've heard in years

I think this cd is very cohesive. All of the track have very deep meaning. Cee-lo has a unique gift of using metaphors to convey a wide range of feelings. I you really listen to the words of the songs you can see how he is expressing a different emotion in each song. The cd addresses many critical issues that most people face today: whether it is suicide(track 8 just a thought) or sexual repression(track 12 necromancer). I think this is an excellent cd and i would definitely recommend it to all music lovers. It is very important to listen intently at the words in the songs because it is easy to listen only to music and the beats and not the words and conclude that this album is not cohesive but it is really the opposite.

  • One of the best of the century

Without a doubt, this is one of the best records released in the last few years! Filled with such soul and funk, you will not be able to take this CD out of our CD player for quite a while. My absolute favorite song on this truly remarkable is ‘Smiley faces’. It uplifts you, makes you wanna get up and boogie and have this song on repeat non-stop. What is probably the most appealing fact about this album, I know quite a few people who own this record and each person has got a different favorite song. This album is appealing to such a wide and various audiences. I am sure you will like it too, even if this type of music is usually not your cup of tea.
