Product Information

The Hoya 52mm HD Hardened Glass 8-Layer Multi-Coated Digital UV Filter is a multi-purpose fine-weather filter that is designed to optimize the photography experience of the digital SLR user. UV filters which absorb ultraviolet rays that often make outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct should be constantly fitted to a lens to provide improved clarity and color balance as well as to provide protection to your lens. Hardened Optical Glass that has 4 times the breaking strength in ANSI standardized testing (ANSI Z80.3 : 2001) where steel balls of varying size and weight were dropped from a height of 50 inches onto the glass. Newly developed industry leading Hardened 8-Layer Multi-Coating yields an average light transmission rate of 99.35% between 400 and 700nm (visible spectrum). These coatings greatly reduce reflections off the surface of the glass allowing you to capture more light in your photos. As with all HOYA multi-coatings HD HMC is applied in a furnace at high heat bonding the coating to the surface of the glass. This process is called "hard coating" and it is far more durable than other coating techniques. The chemistry of the top layer is formulated not just to be more durable but to be resistant to oil stains. This means that finger prints and other oils are much easier to remove.     Perfect lens for new camera buyers to protect their lens investments.

    I had just purchased my first DSLR, a Nikon D5100. Was looking for a quality UV filter to keep my lens protected from day one. It fits very well, my Nikon lens cap has no restrictions. I take macro shots for using on ebay mostly and normal every days indoor and out shots for personal use. The lens filter has performed as I expected with no negative aspecs. It has accomplished just just what I was looking for. I would recomment this to any one. 5 stars

    Just as Advertised!

    I have these on all my lenses except my 500mm which doesn't have a front thread. The 500 has the HD polarizer in the little tray because it holds back less light. Can be cleaned with a t-shirt and as durable as it gets.

    A bit pricey when compared with Kenko filter which have a similar quality

    Hoya is known as the best brand in filters. Why spend hundred of dollars in lenses and cameras and them save a few with a bad quality lens filter? Hoya is the way to go, they have the best coatings.

    cheap, good, but isnt good in blacklight because sparks ghost

    Pros: its cheap. slim. cons: generates sparks ghost. need a multicout. is good for almost everything, except for backlighting and bright lights at an angle greater than 5 ° perpendicular to the sensor. for protection to the lens, is very good. the shipment could not be faster. and finally, I'm happy with the filter.
