There are some real positives about this game. For starters, it's a racing game with a twist...this game showcases open wheel racers from the 60's and early 70's. Interesting challenges to open new cars. Facts relevant to a driver or car are scrolled as you highlight a car. Challenging races. Cinemas that highlight the actual race. Cars mimic the originals that raced in that time. Some may be fast and light or slide more in turns etc. Well researched. Here's the knock: In most races, a computer opponent will strike your car and damage it. Or spin you out as a result of them bouncing off the wall. This will drop your position in the race. For example, I was in the 4 position and ended up in 24. No way to make it back from there. In spite of this, I really like the game and I'm not even a huge fan of racing. This particular era of racing occurred in my boyhood and there is a bit of a nostalgia factor that appeals to me. Overall, it's a fun and informative game and highlights the bravery of the early Formula drivers. UPDATE: Having played the game several times I've found that patient driving and holding the racing line reward you. If you hastily pass drivers you will likely pay with the other cars driving aggressively. However, if you make calculated moves, you can find the finish line and the Winner's Circle. This game definitely had re-playability. It's a fave in our house.Read full review
I was pleasantly suprised my boys (husband and son) loved this game. They really like racing games and some of the games I have bought are terrible. I didn't play myself, but they said the cars steering was good and responded well... they even were able to use the wii wheel and that worked great. They only made it throught I "year" (the game is set up by years - with the racing legends for each year), but so far so good. There is also some race history thrown in there too. Good game... boys liked it. Better than the average racing game for the wii.
Both myself and my wife just love this game. We love the challenge of both the classic mode and mission mode. All the race cars act differently in steering and acceleration. In mission mode, you have challenges with pit stops with tire change and fueling. It takes some practice, but stick with it and you will get it. We both have done all of the missions through out all the years and cars of that year. We have almost completed all the classic modes. In classic mode, do the time trails first. The faster you are, the better place you will be in the line up for the main race. The front stretch is a little dark, but you will get use to it. What we have found is that it is best to use the Wii controller steering wheel adapter. Helps alot with car control. Another note for Wii racing games. Other racing games we like for the Wii is Monster Jam and Monster Jam Urban Assault, which are monster trucks. We also like the Baja 1000, which has all kinds of off road vehicles.Read full review
I am addicted to racing games. I have all three major platforms and I only buy racing games. Gran Turismo for Playstation is the standard, the best. But this one is pretty good too. They have taken the best 20 years of the Indy 500 (the decades of the 60's and 70's) and analyzed the top three finishers every year. You then play the game from that driver's perspective, with the same handicaps the real cars had in that particular year (Parnelli Jones no brakes, Roger Ward bad handling car, etc.). It's fascinating. I was a real Indy 500 fan before the IRL split and this game covers every angle as realistically and historically accurately as possibly. I've got over 50 hours in it so far and it keeps getting better and better. If you're looking for just another game, you probably won't like this. You'll find it too difficult and boring. But if you're into open wheel racing, especially the vintage stuff, this is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!Read full review
Being a fan of the 1967 STP turbine, I was anxious to see how it played out in this game. I spent about 5 straight days of playing, a couple of hours a day to get to that point. The engine sounds and the graffics are great. The whooooosh of the turbine was pretty cool once I got to that point. The Novi is also impressive. I'm a 52 year old kid who would recommend this game to anyone who grew up with the last of the roadsters in the 60s. Until something better comes along, this is as close as it gets to being there during those great years.
