Takes a while to grow on you
Hole's music varies. "Celebrity Skin" has a lot of poppish sounds mixed with Courtney's grinding vocals and loud but flowing guitars. "Live Through This" shows the band's more raw side, from "Violet" all the way through to "Rock Star." But "Pretty On The Inside" is definitely different from the two other albums. POTI is also raw, but way more hardcore and dark than "Live Through This." Some Hole fans prefer the newer material, while others beg to differ. Personally, I think this album is a masterpiece, it just takes some time to let the songs attach to you. At first I thought of this album as "ugly sounding, ear piercing..." and phrases along those lines. But when you listen to the deep emotion and pain described in the tracks, it really turns into something beautiful. If you open your ... Hole's music varies. And overall, the makers of the music (can't forget to give credit to Jill Emery, Eric Erlandson, Caroline Rue, and Love's guitar playing) bring out what Courtney has to say on each track. Anyway, my favorite songs are "Babydoll" and "Good sister/Bad sister". If you like Hole, if you are open to different music, or if you like grunge rock music, then this album might be the right choice.

Hole-Pretty on the Inside
I had this dc when I was 13 years old and when it wouldn't play anymore, I had to buy another one. Eventually it skipped as well. Ever since then I have had the most difficult time finding another one. NO one carried it anymore. So when I found it on ebay, I was so excited. Since it's arrival, I have not stopped playing it. I absolutley love Courtney Love and her music. This cd makes me feel like a teenager again every time i listen to it. Should be "Unique Euphoria on the inside"
I fell in love with Hole after this album came out, during the "Live Through This" CD era. I enjoyed her vocals so much that I had to check out earlier material and I've been very pleased with my findings! Courtney Love in the early 90's , this album released in 1991, is the epitome of a rock star goddess. Her raw vocals and great backing band prove that this group is more than just your everyday rock band on MTV. They've got originality, depth, and edge. I'm starting to prefer the band's older material over their newer, more melodic tracks. This album is true Hole at it's finest!!! Makes me wish newer groups had as much appeal and uniqueness. A prime representative of its era
Lollapalooza rock; noisy, angry, defiant; not afraid to be “whatever I was feeling at the time.” Goes well on repeat. Tip your hat to Crazy Horse as you spin past. Hints of other contemporaries to be found as well, if you listen carefully.

There is a lot to try to like about this album. The lyrics are intriguing the music tries to be cool and the singing...well...um...well, the singing flat out sucks. If nothing else this seems to express an unbridled rage or frustration that I would imagine most people feel at some time or another. I guess that's cool even if it's not that good.
