About this product

Product Information

Set in Neptune, California, VERONICA MARS is a popular TV drama that follows the fortunes of a 17-year-old trainee private investigator. Neptune is full of powerfully rich residents, many of whom believe they are above the law. Fortunately Veronica, who was propelled into a life of crime-fighting after her best friend, Lilly, was murdered, is on hand to ensure that justice is served, much to the annoyance of the Neptunians who find themselves frequently foiled in their devious plans. Veronica's father is the former sheriff of Neptune, who found himself removed from office after alleging that Lilly's father was responsible for his daughter's death. Now, together with Veronica, he runs a local private investigation business, while also ensuring that his daughter doesn't neglect her high school duties. A long-standing subplot that runs through the show is Veronica's attempts to clear her father's name, which only leads to further evidence of enormous corruption and deceit in a neighborhood that seems littered with criminal activity. The entire first season of the show is collected here.

Veronica Mars detective - the very beginning

This tv series ran initially through 3 seasons, then after a lapse of about 5 years, there was a movie. After several more years, the series continued. Surprisingly, the cast continued the same throughout! Ms. Mars starts out as a teenage (high school) detective. There is a murder mystery involved, but it takes the entire season to finish up. In the meantime, we see many realistic detective cases: credit card fraud investigation, school election fraud, missing people location, tracking down various school related problems, spying on cheating spouses, etc. For me, this mixture of cases was very interesting. I enjoyed the variety and the realism of the sometimes mundane detective activity. The cast is quite convincing. Kristen Bell does an excellent job of carrying the series. I ...

    DISAPPOINTING...

I watched the Veronica Mars movie (I'm a detective story fan) and for the most part enjoyed it. I researched the TV show and the reviews were good. I bought season one to give it a try and was very disappointed! I answered the "yes & no" questions on this survey as if I were a teenage boy and gave it good marks. The truth is I'm an adult over 21 and if I'd answered as an adult it would have received poor marks. The show is aimed at a teenage audience that would relish in watching the older generation being bounced around and outwitted by a cute, smart teenage girl. If you are under age 19, you would love this show. If you are older than 19, you would find it shallow and silly. Even the slick writing and the excellent selection of a lead actress cannot save this show.

  • Well worth every penny!

This show is one of the best I've ever seen. The first season is the best of all of them. Little pieces of Veronica's past life slowly come out, layer by layer, in each episode while cluing us in to the one big mystery that glues the first season together. The show follows many of the protocols for film noir: a vigilante private eye working in a town of inept cops, a cynical loner, deep contrasts in the lighting, weird camera angles, stories told through flashbacks. The show has amazing dialogue--snappy and witty, great character development--with vulnerabilities in characters you didn't think you'd like at first, and wonderful relationships--most especially Veronica and her father, the best father/daughter team to grace the small screen. Don't let this being a teenage girl or the fact ...

  • One of the best shows on tv

This show is amazing! It is one of television's most underappreciated. The show is serious but doesn't hesitate to throw in witty humor with great timing. Kristin Bell does a fabulous job as the lead, and the rest of the cast is outstanding. If you like Joss Whedon's humor then you will love this show as well. The only drawback to the dvd release is very limited special features, if you care about that sort of thing. If you have been thinking about getting this show then wait no longer. You won't regret your decision.

  • For the most part "Veronica Mars: season one" is a very well crafted show.

I got a hold of the movie and read that I should watch the first 2 seasons; before viewing the movie. I was able to get the first two seasons at a low price, so I bought them. This review is only for the first season. All in all it's around 14 hours. "Veronica Mars" Should not be the best show you'll ever see but you'll probably like it. There are, mostly, good things to be said about the show. "Veronica Mars: Season 1" is top notch quality. The camera work, the grade of film, the back drops, ... The director and the actors are all excellent. The mystery writing is really well done. My problem is too much "Payton Place' salaciousness. Also, the stereotype of: "If you're wealthy then you're evil." And finally, there is a lot of making the high school kids totally brilliant ...
