About this product
Product Information
The Second Edition of this well-known Compendium has been considerably expanded and updated. It contains new chapters on test selection administration and preparation of the client; report writing and the informing interview; executive functions; occupational interest and aptitude; and malingering and symptom validity testing. The first four chapters focus on history taking, test selection, profiling of test results, report writing, and informing the client. The remaining thirteen chapters contain nearly all the tests covered in the first edition plus almost the same number of new ones. Some of the new tests are: Kaufman-Brief Intelligence Test, Mini-Mental State Examination, Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Design Fluency Test, California Verbal Learning Test, and Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Test. For each test, the authors provide a thorough description, source and price, instructions for administration, duration, scoring procedures, normative data, and validity information. They also discuss special tests and clinical techniques in examining the functional integrity of brain regions. The volume does not limit itself to the adult age range, but includes all the norms available for pediatric and gerontological populations, as well as neuropsychological tests developed specifically for children.

Reviews
"In its first edition, this Compendium quickly established itself as one of the most respected reference standards for the normative interpretation of tests used in neuropsychological clinical practice. The current revision continues in this tradition....this is a highly recommended and verycompetent volume which should be considered as a 'gold standard' for the practicing neuropsychologist....Spreen and Strauss should be commended for their contribution to the field, which represents a Herculean effort. Although not intended to be a comprehensive handbook, clinical wisdom as well asscientific rigor are well balanced with the emerging opinions and advice being very sound. Diligent reading of this volume is virtually guaranteed to improve the quality of both clinical and experimental practice for even experienced neuropsychologists." --Canadian Journal of NeurologicalSciences, " ... this is a highly recommended and very competent volume which shouldbe considered as a "gold standard" for the practicing neuropsychologist. ...Spreen and Strauss should be commended for their contribution to the field, which represents a herculean effort. ... clinical wisdom as well as scientificrigor are well balanced with the emerging opinions and advice being very sound.... guaranteed to improve the quality of both clinical and experimental practicefor even experienced neuropsychologists." Canadian Journal of NeurologicalSciences (Feb. 1999), Praise for the first edition: "Numerous tables of normative data not available in published test manuals are reproduced in this volume....The extensive experience of the authors as clinical neuropsychologists and supervisors of graduate students is reflected in their comments toward the end of each test entry that includes caveats on administration, interpretation, and limitations of the normative data....This book complements the reference work by Lezak and the book by Heilman and Valenstein with a minimum of redundancy....The writing style is clear, lively, and succinct, thus inviting the reader to refer frequently to this book for reference."--Archives of Neurology, " ... this is a highly recommended and very competent volume which should be considered as a "gold standard" for the practicing neuropsychologist. ... RCPSC Annals (Oct 1998), "Their first edition of this text provided one of the first compilations of many of the neuropsychological procedures available to professionals for use with children and adults. Needless to say, significant praise was accorded that text and it was well-deserved. The attendant care andthoughtful nature of the first edition is clearly present in the second."--Contemporary Psychology, " .. a valuable reference. ... Dvd arrived quickly and well packaged and taken care of. The item was listed as acceptable and met all of my needs but here's a quick description of what I got: Some wear is visible on the plastic sleeve on the outside of the case. The inside leaflet was still there! The disk has about 3 very notable scratches, although none are bigger than about 2 centimeters. Little to no grime anywhere on the product. Great service!
