As for the book, Darkness Visible, it is the best explanation of what depression is like for those who have never felt it, and positively validating for those who have.     Amazing reflection on Coping with Depression!

    William Styron's concise yet deeply moving account of his personal struggle with depression is powerful and poignant. The award-winning novelist takes the reader on the journey with him through the darkness of depression, treatment, and eventually recovery. I strongly recommend this book to ANYONE who has struggled with depression or knows a loved one or close friend who has journeyed through it. Also an excellent read from a literary memoir standpoint- and quite concise. I got through it in about two sittings. Add this book to your "must read" list!

    Superlative account of one man's descent into depression, without drama, restrained tone, and great literary skill. Thorough background narrative. Not without a lucid conclusion that will encourage all sufferers of this increasingly common malady.

    Best book about what depression feels like.

    This is the best book out there about what it feels like to be depressed. A good idea for parents or spouses to read who just "don't get it." I have had clinical depression for 18 years and this is the best book I've found, and I've read a lot of books about depression. My husband just read it and he said it gave him a whole new insight into what clinical depression feels like.
