Pockethole joints and Screws
I was given an old Axminster Pocket Hole Jig, looks like a well made piece of kit and Ive just used it for the first time, had a job where Ive made up a face frame useing approx 4x1 with about 18 butted joints, I had tead that trying to use anything other than the correct Pocket Hole Screws was likly to result in the wood splitting where the head of the screw jacked it apart, esp as I think its most llikely every joint useing this system involves the screw being first driven through the end grain into the edge of the 2nd piece. Its possible that you might find Pan Head Screws that would work, but to be honest, I personally dont think its worth trying unless you have them to hand. These Kreg Screws had a Course Thread and a drill tip, you will need to have a lond Square Drive Screwdriver ...
