  • Windows Internals Masters Degree

Excellent book by the guys that have been writing books that Microsoft trains people out of; with a forward by the guy that invented the Windows kernel. A little bit techy, but about as understandable as it gets, with 5 minute projects etc. The authors have for years given away the most helpful and powerful tech software at sysinternals.com (ProcessExplorer etc.) , and then also sold some of the most powerful above that(ERD to breathe life into a 'dead' system without os re-installation). The Microsoft team just acquired both of the authors in '07, in true recognition of their passion, genius and understandability.

  • Microsoft Windows Internals 4th Edition

With the release of the 5th edition of this book, I saw quite some hype about this book and decided to part with some money and choose a previous edition which covers Windows XP, Server 2000 and 2003. The reason why I bought this book, it provides a very detailed insight of what happens "under the hood", in terms of all the nitty gritty goings on while the OS is running. I would say that this book is not an easy read and you should have prior knowledge of the Windows system. Recommended audience would be IT professionals and programmers who want to know that little bit more. The book itself is a hardcover edition and has 930 pages.
