Reviews
First in a series, this is a rich and satisfying read. --Kirkus Reviews The action is swift, the fantasy world nicely defined, and the ending will leave readers wanting more. With a multicultural cast and enough gender role-reversal to make a lot of people happy, this is a promising first title in a series. --Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books [T]his is an enjoyable fantasy for middle-grade readers, who will look forward to the next book in the series. --School Library Journal Pierce has created an excellent new world where magic is a science...and populated it with a cast of well-realized characters. Teens will eagerly await the planned sequels. --Booklist

It was marked „good“ but it has up to 6 stickers which very not removable without tearing parts of the coverprint away. That's a pity but at least it was the edition I ordered.

  • Looking for a good series?

A noble girl, hidden by magic in a room to escape a mob, the only person who knows she is there is killed by the mob, her family dead of the small pox epidemic. A trader girl, lost at sea after her family's ship sunk in a late winter storm, adrift with little food and water, and no hope of being found... not many would dare go out so early like her Mother, the captain of the ship had. A street boy, caught three times stealing, has a short life of hard labor to look forward to. And a merchant girl, disowned and abandoned by her family for being odd, after being passed from relative to relative. That is how this book, and the circle of magic series starts. I loved this book, and all the ones that followed, Tamora Pierce created a beautiful and realistic world, where magic is as common as ...

  • Tamora Pierce is a master storyteller

Having read many of her books, I wanted to continue to explore the world of Winding Circle and the young mages she created. Sandry is probably not the most exciting of the mages, but "weaving" the four mages togther really added to the story. I did not read these two series' in order and I found that this book is obviously the first one because Pierce is a feeling out the characters and slowly making them come together. It feels a little unsure because I had already read the books where the characters are established and this felt a little wierd. I will probably go back and read them all over in proper order eventually. I was very satisfied by this book and am eagerly awaiting anything else Ms. Pierce was coming out.
