Madden NFL 09 for Nintendo DS isn't a bad game; in fact, it's functionally stronger than last year, cleaning up a lot of the bugs and gameplay issues we mentioned in our 08 review almost exactly one year ago. In fact, as far as the core game is concerned EA has again delivered one of the best portable Madden games on a Nintendo console thus far, as you've got all the options and modes that made 08 great, and then some. It just fails to innovate once again, and after four years of the same core game, it's time to change some things for the better, rather than just fixing bugs and adding a new mode here and there. We've gone nearly half a decade with DS Madden, and it's high time some serious effort was put back into the innovation of the system. Have fun!
I was a little disappointed by the game play graphics, players are a little fuzzy and sometime hard to control. As a long time fan of the Madden series, i have always enjoyed the game. They made some changes in the latest edition, expanding some areas, while taking away others. I was dissapointed that the create a player option was no longer available, you are only able to create a player through the SuperStat opition. The expanded training camp is good, also. Overall, it's a good game that I would recommend to anybody, especially those already familiar with Madden.
i just bought Madden 09 for the psp. i have not gotten it yet but i have played the wii one. (i rented it)very fun game. Madden 09 wii has many new cool stuff like 5 on 5 mode and superstar challenge from the 2007 and 2008 season, you get to go back in the past and play big events for a team. for example the superbowl Giants .vs. Patriots. so that is superstar challenge. 5 on 5 mode is you get to have 5 players like the quarterback wide receiver and running back. they go animated and not like animated in quick play i mean cartoon kinda and the funny part they have a big head, i mean the size of pumpkin! some other cool things is you get to party like a true fan when you make a touchdown! you get shake your wii romote all around and dance like you never have before! and if you dance hard you might just improve all your players stats in the game! (i mean one or two will make a big play!) now heres something awesome ROOKIE MODE AND ROOKIE CHALLENGE! lets start with rookie mode, remember in Madden 08 where you had to press a button to throw and move your arm at the same time? WELL thats GONE!! you dont have to press any buttons unless you pick a play and do fancy moves and stuff like that, you get to just move your arm like your throwing the football and throws to whoever is open! (dont worry they have huge dots and when they are red that means they are not open but when they are green, make sure you throw!)Here is a wii exclusive (5 on 5 is a wii exclusive too) CALL YOUR SHOTS! just pick a play running or passing then if you decide you dont like it call your shots you get to change the play and i dont mean pick a new one i mean make a new one you use a wii remote and just drag the line to wear you want to go oh and remember if you make a great play, remember to press the plus button not B button (if im not mistaken)it will erase the play and you will sadley have to do it all over again, that stinks. i almost forgot about rookie challenge! you get to create your own rookie put his info in and stuff like that. This i think is the best thing in the game! you sign up for the NFL get drafted to a team go to training camp hire a agent if your lucky and you do good in camp you will be a starter and if you play for a couple of years you might turn into a super star! its also the best off-field rooke challenge football game ever! you get to star in a movie you get to be interveiwed and start in the NFL kickoff its a blast! Ok last but not least Franchise mode you get to pick your own team and either simulate or play in every game its kinda cool but not the best in the game. well theres lots more stuff but i only told you things you like most. really fun game and if you see this game in stores for wii BUY IT! its worth your money! (trust me).Read full review
really good for a DS game custom teams need a lil work but in seson or franchise you can create a player to add to Free agents every season and the is no mini camp during off seasons.. but game play is easy and fun kinda reminds me of madden 2000 a must buy for madden lovers on the go... and internet play is easy but dont beat your the other team to hard or they leave early lol
Although with not many changes from last year's Madden, you have to respect the fact that this game has been around for 20 years, and that Brett Farve is on the cover of this game. If you already have Madden 08, and really like it, stick with it, unless you want to try out this version of Madden which has a little better graphics and an updated roster. The other improvement in the game is that you won't see people jump superhuman heights like Madden 08 and intercept your pass out of nowhere. The game is still fun even if you don't play online, but you should since the online play has improved from last year's Madden. Other than it's just last year's Madden again.
