About this product

Product Information

The second Madden release for the Nintendo 64 now features both NFL and NFLPA licenses, so teams will have authentic names, colors and logos in addition to the real players. Over 110 classic and modern NFL teams have been included with team-specific playbooks, but if you don't like the plays, you can assemble your own with the Custom Playbook option.

Madden NFL 99 also runs in the Nintendo 64's high-res mode for sharper 3D players and fields. One-Button Passing and Arcade options simplify the action for those new to the series, but seasoned players need not worry -- there is now a Franchise mode that will let you continue playing over multiple seasons. Other modes include Season, Exhibition, Custom Season, Practice and Tournament.

During franchise play, you'll need to make decisions on signing free agents or trading for that star player to carry your team into the millennium. You'll also have to worry about retirement, drafts and the omnipresent salary cap. Pat Summerall and John Madden have returned for commentary duties, and a new Play Editor lets you design your own secret weapon.

As with Madden 64, both statistics and season progress can be saved to Controller Pak. Anything else worth mentioning? How about a Fantasy Draft mode that enables you to form your own Dream Team! Madden NFL 99 supports up to four players simultaneously and is compatible with the Rumble Pak accessory to provide vibration feedback after every tackle.

  • Is it still good today??

22 years after release, is this game good? At the time of release many of these sports games were great and at the time EA was actually not a soleless garage fire hell bent on destroying the gaming industry. Compared to current games, yes, these old first 3D sport titles are unplayable. As a nostalgic product of their time they are amazing and still deserve consideration today for building a foundation to modern gaming.
