After 18 years of Army life Nichols (James Garner) returns home to Nichols, Arizona to find the family ranch has been taken over by Ma Ketchum ( Neva Patterson) and son known only as Ketchum (John Beck). Rose the barmaid (Margot Kidder) Mitch is deputy (Stuart Margolin) Nichols winds up sheriff armed with a motorcycle rather than a six shooter to tame the wild west, keep the town clean and orderly.
