Wonderful behind-the-scenes insight into one of the most influential fantasy series you've never heard of
It's so difficult to find hardcover copies of this book nowadays, a wonderful behind-the-scenes look into one of the most quietly influential fantasy series of the 1970s and 1980s. It's so rare to get author's notes alongside the original story itself and it not only teaches readers about the writing process, but about the background behind the story, character moments they might not have known about and the relationship the authors had with writers of companion series in the DragonLance universe. While the old writing style of most of those books doesn't hold up, the original DragonLance chronicles continues to entertain. Some of the old standbys remain -- overly lengthy prose and tropes that weren't tired when they were written but are tired now. But this book is not about the quality of the story itself -- cheaper versions of the original series can be found everywhere -- it's for the fantastic annotations from the authors, which gives us much more than most books ever could.
