    better than expected

The specs say this unit will run on 110 or 220 volts. That's possible, but to run on 110v the recommended amperage is 50 amps. That may be available in other countries but not in US. So, I had my electrician run a 30 amp 220 volt line to the workshop. It has long been my experience that under powering a piece of gear is a good way to have a failure or damage the piece of gear. The only other requirement is shop air or a medium or larger air compressor. The unit has it's own water seperator. After powering it up it was awesome. They say it has "severance" on 1/2". I found cutting 5/8" engineering stakes (2 pass) to be far better with the plasma cutter that with a cut off wheel. My first project was to salvage the sheet steel out of a 1950s government surplus desk. the lightest steel was 16 gauge the heaviest 7 gauge. It just ripped through all of it. Then I made one of those prepper stoves from two junk car wheels. The wheels were 10 gauge and the cutter handled it with ease. I have seen reviews where usuers were dissatisfied and they usually start with, "I had to make my own 110v pigtale...". What I have experienced is this, a small plasma cutter is the best cutting tool for a hobbyist metal worker because it doesn't cost much more than a chop saw, but you can make straight, angled, or curved cuts in many kinds of metals and configurations. In other words, to replace the plasma cutter you would need a band saw, chop saw, cut off wheel, and and occasional gas cutting torch. Highly recommended!

    Lotos LTP5000D Plasma cutter

Bought this for mostly small projects of 3/8" and thinner. It says it will sever 5/8" mild steel using 220volts, tried it,, NO WAY! 1/2" not really. A very messy. almost not a cut. At best it will cut 3/8" OK. A lot of slag to grind away. But on thinner steel (1/4" and below) it works as it should. Making some NICE clean cuts. Don't forget that on 110volts you would only be able to cut half of these thicknesses. So it will do what I need it to. I'll probably only use it a few times a month. And just use the cutting torch on the thicker metal over 3/8". At about $400 bucks it isn't a real cheap one but also far from being a name brand one for $1200 to a couple thousand. I got the extended warranty just in case. So all in all, it will do about 80% of the things I want to cut with nice clean cuts. If I get couple years out of it I'll be Happy!

  • Good unit for 1/4" and less thickeness. Will cut 1/2" but with lots of cleanup required. Good Values

For 1/4" plate and less this is a very good unit. For 3/8" and above the unit is limited even with 230V input. The length of the ground lead is too short. OEM should supply same length of ground cable as torch length at 12ft. Add another $30USD to the sale price to cover the additional length of grounding wire makes this a no brainer. With thicker material, expect the consumables to increase. I am still curious to why they say only certain types of consumables work with the brown unit. The more expensive consumables I purchased are not the color of the consumables shown in pics. I think this may be a sales tactic.

  • Good machine for a value price

The LTP5000D is a stout little machine, read lots of reviews and watched videos of theachine in action before making the purchase. The unit does have its quirks , such as a poorly designed grounding clamp and undersized grounding cable , two very easy to fix issues with a trip to the welding supply store. And a cheaply made air regulator, again a inexpensive component to upgrade. So without spending thousands on a higher end machine , this unit is great for a home gamer like myself. So in closing, this machine if used correctly and a few things are improved by the end user namely .. 1) upgrade the clamp and cable 2) upgrade the air regulator 3) run the machine on 220 volt, to maximize efficiency and amperage capability 4) clean oil/water free air, to maximize the lifespan of your consumables

  • Handy Little Item

I've been wanting a plasma cutter for a long time. I've looked over a lot of machines, and the Lotos LTP5000D seemed to be the best bang for the buck. I very much like this machine. I've been cutting a lot of 20 gauge stainless steel with it and it does a nice job. Quick, reliable starts with the pilot arc and the consumables seem to be holding up well. I bought a filter/dryer for my air line to keep the moisture out (plasma does not like moisture) and regulated my air pressure to 65psi per the manual. So far this machine has been flawless. I've been warned not to under power the machine so I can't really asses the performance on 110 AC, but on 220 it is rock solid.

  • A little overstated

This was a easy unit to set up and get into service. However, my first piece of steel was a piece of New, not rusty, flat stock 3/8 inch thick. The Lotos did cut it but not anywhere what I would call a clean cut. I've done better with my gas cutting torch and just as fast. Now.....I have to say this is my first cutting with this unit, so to be fair I may have to increase air pressure or slow down. The amp. knob was turned has high as it would go. Air set at 70 psi. This unit is rated to cut 5/8"....I don't see how, but again, maybe I'm overlooking something.

  • Cuts nicely up to 1/4 inch

This company was easy to deal with, I bought the unit with the extended 23 foot torch which I recommend getting. I had to adjust the internal spark gap for the pilot arc but once that was dialed in it works very well, I made a new 25 foot ground cable utilizing the existing cable hardware. This company is located in sunnyvale california so its easy to call and ask questions. Definitely saves you $1200 hrs buying a name brand miller or Lincoln, only one size consumables for every thickness of material. Consumables wear quicker on thicker cuts but last longer then I expected.

  • Great for what it is

I can say that the lotos5000d is one of the best plasma cutters in its price range. For the cost of a therm you can buy 3-4 of the lotos cutters. 50amp rated I’ve cut 3/8 with it so far no issues yet. Now for the plug it comes with a twist lock 250amp 240v 3 prong most everything I have that uses 240v take a standard 250amp 3prong not a twist lock type which I’m not sure of anyone short of someone running this off a generator using the twist lock so I had to speed 15 bucks us to get the plug that matches everything else in my shot no big deal but something to be aware of. All in all great little Machain so far.

  • Best little plasma cutter for the money

I just received this plasma cutter took the time to read the instructions carefully. The manual stated that it could run off either 110 or 220VAC, I decided to go with 220VAC. After carefully setting up the machine I proceeded with my first cut I was impressed at how easily it cut through quarter inch steel like a hot knife through butter. I only hope the durability of this machine last as it is exceptional value compared to other Cutters on the market.

  • Cheap plasma cutter with lots of power.

I purchased this because I had a project that required around 100ft of cutting in 1/2" plate steel. This machine is rated for 1/2" clean cut in steel, but I found it to be lacking. When everything is perfect, it does cut it, but leaves tons of dross that makes the parts stick together. I think it would be a phenomenal machine for 3/8"and under. Consumables wear very quickly. I went through 4 sets on my project. Also, the wire standoffs are garbage. The second molten steel hits them, they melt in half. I attached a 1 1/4" hose clamp around the standoff, where it attached to the ceramic. This helped tremendously. For the last 15 years, I have used my Lincoln Pro-cut 25. This machine is virtually the same size albeit with much shorter torch and ground leads. I will say that the Lotos has a better pilot arc and does cut better all while using cheaper consumables. Ultimately, it works well but is overrated in capability. I wish I would have spent the extra money and purchased an 80 amp machine.
