Having owned a professional Yamaha alto sax, I wasn't expecting much from a budget saxophone. But, I got to say, this has to be the best budget sax I have ever played! The build quality was excellent and the fit and finish was also right on the money. There was absolutely no adjustments that I had to make to any of the keys or pads. The sound quality is pretty balanced. Not too bright or too muffled. Also, excellent action on the key springs. Did I mention the case? Well, the case is great! It's not some cheap flimsy case that may last a few months. They did a great job on the case as well. When closed, everything in the case is very secured. If you're looking for a budget saxophone and would like the sound and quality of a more expensive saxophone, I highly recommend the Jean Paul AS400 Alto Saxophone. Read full review

The sax just arrived and I can’t even get the sax neck into the body because the tenon is too tight! May have to end up getting a replacement sax.

I must say that the JeanPaul AS-400 (Silver) I purchased on eBay (new/other at a substantial discount to retail) is amazing. I compare this to a rebuilt YAS23 that I have which cost almost half again as much more . I replaced the included generic Mouth Piece with a JeanPaul AS-4 which gives me much better notes and is equivalent to a Meyer 5MM when played on this instrument. Originally I was hesitant to buy a "Chinese" built sax, but researched JeanPaul's offerings when I was looking for a Tenor Sax for my boy and we bought him the TS-400 (a great instrument - all be it you need to also upgrade the included mouthpiece.) Had an (minor?) issue with the neck key and contacted Jean Paul and they are sending out a replacement - so it is true they respond to their customers in a timely manner - you can phone them or email them. Friendly helpful staff. I am a beginner and this sax makes a world of difference in my progressing because now I don't have the many issues with embouchure (mouthpiece) and intonation (sax). The AS-400S is a beautiful upgrade from the AS-400 (gold varnish) and came with a better case (with wheels). This sax seems to be of good quality metal - weight same as the YAS23. Keys all fit the tone holes and are of good quality. The silver finish cleans easily. The sax appears to have the ability to be "adjusted" as needed (time will tell). Jean Paul apparently has a network to fix these and provide parts, so there is the possibility it will last many years. I recommend Jean Paul for student level musical instruments because of the price / value / quality is there - My family now have the (student-intermediate) Alto and Tenor Saxophones, the student Bb Clarinet and entry level Trumpet. My recommendation is it best to look for a new/like new Jean Paul instrument (don't pay full retail) or a guaranteed refurbished name student instrument (Yamaha) on eBay or be sorry. I got lucky on the price of this AS400S on eBay and knowing Jean Paul quality from previous purchases, it was too good to pass up. I really love this AS-400S and I might be selling the YAS23.Read full review

This sax is just like new, and really fits the needs of a student who knows the difference between a cheap version and one that will keep him challenged for a few years. Great quality and finish, and the tone is sweet!

Excellent sax, in much better shape than I was expecting, plays nicely, very clean playing/sounding sax. Perfect for student thru intermediate level players. I bought this for my granddaughter who is in HS, I compared it with my Selmer Mark VI, doesn’t even come close BUT it did play nicely compared to the altos I have made by Yamaha (61) and Taiwan (unison) so they are a very viable horn.
