About this product

Product Information

Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards For the perfect holiday gift for the reader on your list, pick up this special gift edition of one of the most beloved Science Fiction novels ever written. Andrew "Ender" Wiggin thinks he is playing computer simulated war games at the Battle School; he is, in fact, engaged in something far more desperate. Ender is the most talented result of Earth's desperate quest to create the military genius that the planet needs in its all-out war with an alien enemy. Is Ender the general Earth needs? The only way to find out is to throw the child into ever harsher training, to chip away and find the diamond inside, or destroy him utterly. Ender Wiggin is six years old when it begins. He will grow up fast. But Ender is not the only result of the experiment. The war with the Formics has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings, Peter and Valentine, are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives. Ender's Game is the winner of the 1985 Nebula Award for Best Novel and the 1986 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Ender's Game is a fast-paced action/adventure but it is also a book with deep and complex moral sensibilities. Card constructed the book so that layers fold with immaculate timing, transforming an almost juvenile adventure into a tragic tale of the destruction of the only other sentient species man had discovered in the universe., A prize-winning novella has been transformed into an even more powerful book about war, that ranges in topic from reflex-training video games to combat between our inner- and other-directed selves....This book provides a harrowing look at the price we pay for trying to mold our posterity in our own aggresive image of what we believe is right., Superb characterization, pacing and language, combined them into a seamless story of compelling power., [A] powerful book about war, that ranges in topic from reflex-training video games to combat between our inner-and other-directed selves...., Card has taken the venerable sf concepts of a superman and interstellar war against aliens, and, with superb characterization, pacing and language, combined them into a seamless story of compelling power. • Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card was awarded the Hugo Award in 1986 and the Nebula Award in 1985. It is an exciting read. The plot involves a child with great leadership abilities. It is a fairly accurate portrayal and a fine estimate of how his personality and abilities would play out given the gorvernments immense need for him, and the terrible unfairness of that situation to him as a person. It was written at the onset of virtual reality and computer games were not at the level they are now. This book is 25 years old and was ahead of its time. Not recommended for children under 11, but a book for young adults as well as adults. It is a recognized classic in Science Fiction. I decided to buy it because I visited the Museum of Science Fiction in Seattle and it was one of many books shown ...

  • Enders Game should be a "Must Read" in High Schools in every country.

I had read this book 5 years ago --when my twin brother Terry gave it to me. I also read some of the other books in the series. I was again drawn to this story and what its words meant to me. So I went on Ebay and bought all 12 books of the series. I will always have these books at the very top of my readings. Some of Dean Koontz (Lightning) and Steven Koonts (saucer) stories are also fighting for that top position. I also love the Dirt Pitt stories from Clive Cussler. Enjoy Life--- Thats why were here.
