For someone who cannot tolerate ear buds, ear hanger, etc, I found these E-Max Shadows to have enough tip options to allow for long-term comfort. They are a bit bulky but light weight so once they are on, not bad at all. Sports and self-defense shooters will find they are much better to deal with than over the head ear pro. Especially when using long guns or running & gunning. The optional use of the lanyard is recommended as well as the foam style tips for maximum noise reduction. Cons: Ambient pass-through mode is very disappointing to me. Yes, it does allow you to hear the surroundings and range commands. However, there is a very distracting and annoying "hiss", similar to static, no matter what level of charge or volume. This occurs with my active ear muffs as well. I was hoping the switch to expensive and quality ear buds would alleviate this. Sadly, it does not. The hiss of the ear buds is equal to the muffs. This background noise in the muffs is one reason I wanted to switch to buds. No improvement there. It has a negative affect on hearing for a bit after removal.
