Yookoso! is a pretty good book for the classroom or self-study, covering topics and vocabulary related to school, home, travel, food, and shopping. There's a free website that accompanies the book you can access to listen to the dialogue in the book and offers quizzes to each chapter. The only downside I had with the book was that it doesn't teach everyday informal Japanese. All the verbs end in "masu","mashita", ect. and they barely scrape the particles on the end of sentences. Yookoso! teaches you enough to get by and be understood, albeit coming off a bit stiff.
good book for learning university level intro japanese. pairs well with the workbook thats comes with it.
Only bought for class. I do not like this book as a way to learn Japanese. If serious, purchase the Genki textbooks instead.
