CORRECTIONS MADE HERE, because I typed the following review too fast!(SORRY)...*I liked the movie, but I didn't like the German getting killed for no reason at the end. He was a good guy, not like any of his Nazi counterparts. (Played by Marlon Brando, this German Officer was careful not to become like the people he had to take orders from) Near the end he was shot by Dean Martin, of all people, (Probably because he had a hangover or needed a drink and just felt a little edgy that day. Who knows why.) But, after viewing the death camps, I suppose he thought all Germans were alike, so, one more dead German was very acceptable to him. Not caring that the German he was about to shoot had no weapon in his hands and had only been seen, because he was heard smashing his weapon on a tree log. This is when Dean Martin and Montgomery Clift were walking past, below the incline where Marlon Brando was descending from. They didn't care that he would have surrendered at all. It was over quickly and Marlon's character fell over into a muddy puddle and you see his last air-bubbles pop at the surface, showing that he was indeed dead. Well, this movie was ok, but, I would have liked to see that there was some sort of forgiveness to those who were not such bad people. Many were horrific, but, many were just following orders and only went so far in carying them out and such people as Schindler, seen in "Schindler's List", were very helpful in saving those who could be saved. You surely see a new America now, when people who attacked the U. S. on 9/11 are not only forgiven, already, but also even given the job of securing our ports by the President himself. This is amazing to us. There shouldn't be one muslim allowed to be in America, let alone given such important work or being catered to by the ACLU groups and by the government who can't wait to give the land of our forefather's away to the enemy within. The movie is about how life changes on a dime and that even simple, everyday people can become monsters, if you put them in certain positions. I am sick of war and I am sick of people giving in to the enemy's demands. We didn't give in to the enemy in WWII. Why must we now give in to those who use our own laws to slit our throats and change our Constitution! Think about it! We are allowing into our country Somali muslims. The very same people who shoot nuns in the back and who drug our brave soldiers through their dirty streets for just offering them food. They are here now and more coming! By order of the government! They are changing Minnesota, where they have been placed and want to change much more! They refuse to blend into American society and will never do so, yet we have to tend with them even though they do not belong here! Can't you people see this?! Get them and all people like them out of here, for our sake! This movie I saw was frustrating in a way, because it didn't go the way I thought it would. When Marlon was shot, I was frustrated and then it made me not want to see it over and over. Once was enough and "ONCE" is enough when it comes to people living in our own country that want to harm us all! Wake up! Get them out of here and put people in our government that want to better our country and not make it worse! We need NEW people, Not the OLD ones like Ted Kennedy who changed America forever by passing that 1965 Immigration policy which changed our land forever! Please, change that policy back the way it was and you'll save America!!Read full review
Few World War II movies hit me as hard as the great "Young Lions." Dean Martin and Marlon Brando are terrific in this movie. I saw the film originally in 1960 and it was one of the reasons I dropped out of college in 1961 and enlisted in the Army. Protecting our great country is something all of us should be doing. Back to movie, Deano played a Hollywood person who was drafted. Brando was a Nazi and this film gives us the perspective of Americans as well as the Germans. Even in 2008, this film comes to life. It shows what life was like in the 1940s with the world fighting. Hope Lang and Montgomery Clift aso have big parts in the blockbuster movie.
I deceided to buy this movie for my mother. She just loves the movie. She kept calling everyone to come over and watch it.
