    Mechanical thermostat in new condition w...

    Mechanical thermostat in new condition was a better unit than my previous unit of the same model. The new one does not us a mercury contact to turn on the heating or cooling. Mechanically, it matches the old mounting plate but has been improved so that the Heat/Off/Cool switch moves freely and does not jam. Wiring is the same with the same layout of wires -- a simple upgrade.

    Quality and Use

    I have an old house with the central unit in the basement. I was playing with the dog and hit the old thermostat with his ball and broke it. I don't update to an electronic model because this White-Rodgers 1F56W-444 is the only one that works properly. This model has a mercury switch, can't be beat for reliability.
