    Dependable Single Band Router

I like the webpage based admin screen; it lets you set just about anything about the router. I have the router in one room, and a laptop two rooms away, and the signal strength to the laptop is very good, (93%). And, the thing looks good sitting on my desk. (I like the white case.) It is a single band router, though, (2.4 GHz). Newer routers give you two bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz. This one doesn't; that's the only reason I didn't give it five stars. Oh, and the admin screen times out in just three minutes, unless you Save, or change screens. You can loose settings your working on, but haven't saved yet. That's annoying.

  • Great Router after you understand how the menu is configured

Installed this over the weekend and it works very well. Very happy with the broadcast power. I only gave it 4 stars due to the menu. It was difficult to understand and cost me some valuable time figuring out. However, if you know going in that the LINKS at the top will change the LINKS on the side bar, then it is much easier to navigate. For instance, at the top if you click “STATUS” the side bar will then change links and you can now click on WIRELESS and see who is on wireless. Same for setting up the wireless, click on” SET UP” at the top and then WIRELESS on the left side. Maybe this is common, I don’t know but had a techno guru buddy with me and he works with companies like ITunes and it was annoying him too so I didn’t feel so bad. Has nice features like setting up a ...

  • Complex installation but amazing speed.

As a general rule, I am more comfortable using the keyboard and mouse. This was my second expedition into the world of routers. I have to admit is a confusing process but can be done. Anyone attempting to install this product should pay particular attention to the exact screens shown during the installation steps contained in the manual. For example, the security settings for users is set in a "manual" (read as you input) process that is not shown in the online installation process. Once completed, the router is amazingly fast when compared with my old Linksys. I would have to say it is at least twice as fast and perhaps even faster. Obviously, I did not do a technical measurement of the rate. It also helps when the purchased product contains all the material included in the ...

  • Inexpensive single-band N Router w/ 300Mbps Wi-Fi & Gigabit Ethernet Ports.

Purchased this item on eBay for $10.50 so it is a good value. Although it is only a single band N router it performs well, has good range along with Gigabit (/1000) LAN & WAN ports. The single USB port on the router is rather useless in a multi-computer setting. It requires each computer to run a proprietary driver and it can only be used by one computer at a time requiring one manually to log off before another can use it. This is reason for 4 star 'features' rating. The 'auto' log on/off of the software driver did not work. Otherwise the router performs well and 300 Mbps wi-fi (if you have an equally capable laptop) and Gigabit ports work reliably well.

  • Robust, and has useful and practical features.

Previously used a WBR-2310. Had problems connecting to wifi when the computer restarted. If the connection was already established, then when the computer went into sleep mode / power saving mode, wireless network would be lost. In such cases, the router had to be restarted. We had similar problems with the laptop too, so it wasn't necessarily a computer problem. With the DIR-655, we have had no such problems so far. It has a additional "guest zone", to boot - perfect when having guests at home. The reason I did not give it five stars in all categories is that I have had it for a short time only, so cannot tell.
