The sequel to the classic 1982 horror anthology Creepshow is a bit of a mixed bag. A smaller budget lowered the number of stories from five to three, and they also couldn't afford to do as many of the "comic book effects" as they had on the first movie. That said, I think the film is pretty decent in its own right. The first story, 'Old Chief Woodn'head,' is the most satisfying of the trio. Ray and Martha Spruce run a general store in the town of Dead River, when a delinquent Navajo teen, Sam Whitemoon, and his hoodlum friends rob them and kill them. Sam and his buddies think they got away, but Old Chief Woodn'head, the cigar store Indian Ray has kept all these years, comes alive and decides to scalp himself some ornery teenagers. Four college students (Deke, Randy, Laverne and Rachel) head to isolate Cascade Lake to smoke weed and get freaky on a wooden raft, only to find themselves preyed upon by a flesh-eating muck monster that covers the surface of the water like a malignant oil slick. Finally we're treated to 'The Hitchhiker.' Wealthy and spoiled Anne Lansing is cheating on her husband, George, and in her effort to beat him home one night so he won't get suspicious, Anne speeds and winds up running down an innocent hitchhiker. Rather than stay and take responsibility for her actions, Anne chooses to flee the moment she sees other cars approaching. The other people (including, ironically, George) don't notice her because they stop to try and help the hitchhiker, who has unfortunately died. Anne is confident she got away undetected, but soon finds herself relentlessly pursued by the undead hitchhiker, who really, really wants a ride. Enough to kill for it. All three stories have the same feel and tone as the ones in the first movie. You've got revenge, the dead coming back to life, and things eating people. The muck monster in 'The Raft' and the title character in 'The Hitchhiker' may not be as memorable as Fluffy and Nathan Grantham in the first movie, but they get the job done. The standout is Old Chief Woodn'head. He's creaky and slow, being wooden and all, but he's determined, and has the element of surprise. His delinquent victims have no idea what hits them, except for Sam, who has my favorite death of the three. Let's just say, he's really proud of his long, luxurious hair, but by the time Chief Woodn'head gets done with 'im he's gonna wish he had shorter hair. Now as for the DVD itself. A gorgeous widescreen picture, the script as an extra, a documentary (titled 'Nightmares in Foam Rubber') and an excellent, in-depth audio commentary by Howard Berger and Greg Nicotero. So if you're a fan of the films, this is the DVD of the sequel that's worth getting in order to complete the Creepshow series. Because Creepshow 3 never happened.

Creepshow 2 is a great sequl to the original, it's not as good, but it still delivers enough to run chill sup and down your spine!!! Another great anthology of Horror. Creepshow 2 features 3 great stories that aren't so much scary as they are hilarious. The Wooden Indian story is great, gory, and a ton of fun. The Monstrous Blob is decent, not the best but decent. But maybe one of the best short horror stories ever is the Hitchiiker story. It's just unbelievable and so well done. Creepshow 2 is a really great film if you enjoy low-budget horror. I personally like Creepshow better, but they're both really good. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you're a fan of Tales from the Crypt or Tales from the Darkside you'll want to buy this. This is good, but the original is better. Tom is great as "The Creep" and this dvd has nice picture and sound plus some neat extras. As a Special Edition DVD this is well worth your time and money. As a film it falls short as a sequel to the outstanding 1982 Creepshow.
