El repertorio de dobles de la narrativa occidental del siglo XIX constituye un reflejo de los temores que acechan al individuo en su peripecia moderna, consciente de su quebradizo yo y temeroso de perderlo. Con el propósito de desentrañar la riqueza semántica, formal y cultural de este motivo, La amenaza del yo ofrece una teoría del doble y un análisis de sus orígenes y sus representaciones literarias decimonónicas para centrarse en el cuento español del siglo XIX. Este campo de estudio resulta fascinante por cuanto aúna manifestaciones literarias procedentes tanto del acervo popular y legendario (una tradición que arranca con el estudiante Lisardo y se incrusta con fuerza en las obras de los escritores románticos) como de los modos deudores de lo fantástico moderno apuntalado muy especialmente en la segunda mitad de la centuria. Rebeca Martin es doctora en Filología Española y profesora de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Ha publicado la monografía Ficciones no disimuladas. La narrativa breve de José Fernández Bremón (2013) y ha coeditado tres volúmenes colectivos sobre cuento español y prensa periódica del siglo XIX. Es autora de un buen número de ediciones, artículos y capítulos de libro sobre narrativa de los siglos XIX, XX y XXI, y miembro de gicesxix.uab.es. Su línea de investigación actual está relacionada con las causas célebres españolas modernas, asunto al que ha dedicado un libro de próxima aparición en la editorial Contraseña (2024).
