  • AJA was the name of Donald's friend's brother's grlfrnd

Bought it because i am a huge music fan in general, and enjoy documentaries on the hows and whys and decisions made that go into making major albums, and this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Little disappointed in the depth covered in this dvd in that most of it is just Donald and Walter sitting behind the control board in a kind of impromptu discussion about what musician did what on a certain line, and how they added a certain layer here or there. I was more expecting what went into the creative process as we all know about their technical prowess and perfectionistic production standards. The in studio performances kinda sucked also--just kind of a laid back, standard version of "Peg" and another one, all with no vocals from Donald, striking in its rote, mechanical ...

  • I’ve owned the album, CD, MP3 and now the DVD documentary of Steely Dan’s Aja.

Have great insights to the the making of the album Aja. Aja is my favorite song by Steely Dan, but the rest of the album is great too.

  • Becker and Fagen speak

The "Classic Album" series is a behind the scenes look at how an album is put together regarding the recording, mixing and editing process. You get a chance to hear from people you normally never see or hear (engineers, studio musicians, background singers etc.). You get a chance to hear stories from the songwriters and band members regarding the making of iconic albums. "Aja" won a Grammy for Best Engineered Recording so this DVD is right on the money. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker do a nice job of showing things that were recorded but never made the final mix and showing things that were in the mix that weren't what you thought they were and reasons why they did certain things. The DVD is about 60 minutes longs and there is enough information and music to make any fan very happy with ...

  • Bernard Purdie!

Even if you're not a huge Steely Dan fan, this doc is awesome. The amount of talent that went into making Aja is insane. This is a fun watch.
