If you compare with some other phone such as Nokia E71, E61i or iPhone, the P1i runs a little slower. But, everything else is great. Camera: as many other PDA or business phones, the camera of P1i is normal quality, but it better than iPhone, E71 or E61i. Software: thousands of applications, games for P1i. Great. One misstake that does not included GPS. But every phone which produced in 2007 does not have the GPS included, so that this problem is not so importance. You can use the bluetooth GPS receiver. ....

Having gone through about 7 phones in the last 3 years & also unlocking many makes and models, it's safe to say I like messing about with mobile phones. The P1i is a very powerful but easy to use phone. The fact that you can use the buttons to operate the phone or the touch-screen is very intuitive. I myself use a combination of both but I find that the included stylus is rarely utilised, the tip of a fingernail is all that is required. The keypad is qwerty one which uses a rocker motion; a minimum of 2 letters to 1 button. It is odd when you first use it, but soon becomes as quick as typing on a normal phone, if not more so. The hand-writing recognition software is ok, but in translating scrawl to typed letters, it is more of a flashy gimmick, often mis-translating letters and words. The camera is of Sony Cybershot quality, a 3.2m producing impressive results and having a built-in LED flash. Call quality is clear & the sound quality through the loadspeaker is exceptional; very coherent & little sibilence at mid-level volumes. The expandable M2 port is at the side of the phone making it easy to swap out cards and the MP3/Video player is simple to use. Battery life is good, much better than I expected. The build quality of the phone is also excellent. It is much more compact than it looks in pictures too, but is slightly weighty due to the superb build & of quality materials used. It's been surpassed in pretty much everyway by the Xperia, but take a look at the price differential. Overall, i'm very happy with the phone. To me, my phone is my MP3 player, camera & notepad in one unit. I can't be bothered to carry multiple items; the P1i is all i need.Read full review
This smartphone is a quality build and made to last. Until I purchased it, I was a Blackberry user but, never again. Im quickly converted. You can still do all the same Blackberry type functions. Having owned one, I can tell you its also as good as any Google Android based smartphone. The software and hardware are reliable and the P1i is largely directed toward the business user. Overall, the P1i's performance is simply excellent. The best "phone" I've ever owned..... by a mile. Only P1i improvement for me would the smartphone having an inbuilt GPS receiver but nothing more.
OK. I've only had this for a day but already it's more stable than the P990i this is supposed to replace and, most importantly, it uses the same batteries as the P990i so I can go on long trips with a few charged batteries knowing I can do most light work normally done on a laptop. With Ryanair limiting cabin baggage weight to 10kg and charging £15 for a suitcase and most laptops weighing around 2kg at least plus cables and so on, this is a decent option. 3g, WiFi, GPRS, EDGE, bluetooth, IR, expandable by MMC card to 16gb, using all the cables from the P990i to connect to PC, same chargers and so on, it's just what I needed. The WiFi on my iphone stopped working, now the 3g seems to have stopped as well, you can't change batteries so you spend your life looking for somewhere to charge it and updating itunes which defaults to whatever the local language is when you're traveling. It's as if Apple sill regard it as a phone you're just borrowing from them and it's still theirs'. I prefer "normal" phones you buy, unlock and work with. I prefer buying older model phones since I don't have the time to act as a free "beta tester" for manufacturers' new phones and operating systems. The screen on the P990i is slightly bigger perhaps and there are more text input option. The P910i was BRILLIANT but had no 3G. The P800 was also very stable and you could run an office from a P800 with a bluetooth keyboard as long as you had EDGE data. All I wanted was something to replace the P910i with something the same, a bit faster perhaps but with 3G and WiFi. The P1i seems to be that. Having said that, as soon as I post this review, I know the phone will crash! EDIT December 2012. I have just bought my third P1i. I found a stock of 16gb MMC cards going cheap and am sticking with this (and some Nokia 6120 classics I also like). My other PCs are all set up to deal with these phones and I don't want the upheaval of finding newer phones' PC suites won't work with older operating systems I have on some much loved, reliable old PCs. I'm not saying new phones are rubbish but I do need them to offer me a lot more that's new and useful for me to want to change, 4G? Nice idea but even though I have plenty of 3G phones, I often find myself with no 3G coverage so I'll wait a while before I try 4G.Read full review
I have got on really well with this phone since I got it recently. The main things I like are: 1.The large touchscreen, really good for using the internet on WiFi in your house using the built in opera browser. 2. The keyboard becomes very easy to use the two letters per button becomes second nature, quick to type and doesnt take much room, should be on more phones. 3. The jog wheel is brilliant, again all phones should have one of these not just sony's it makes it a cruise to operate one handed which is the aim of the game. Negatives are : 1. Would have liked GPS 2. Menus to send a SMS are a bit annoying and switching between sent items/inbox isnt as quick as it could be but these are minor gripes. It does everything it says it should really well.
I have the older Sony Ericsson P990i smartfone, which I love, but have dis-connected the speaker somewhere inside by dropping it! I have been using a K800i since which works ok, but it's not enough, I like my gadgets! A few days ago I got the latest P1i - A great phone which is just loaded with stuff! This is the replacement to the P990i Smartfone. 1 of the main complaints about that phone is that you had to close off each application as you'd used it to avoid draining the battery within hours, including reading a text message! It is also quite bulky. This has been overcome with the P1i. A slimmer design and no battery problems. I've had this phone for just a few days and after customising and adding new shortcuts, I'm starting to find my way around it a bit easier. There is no 'centre joggle button' to navigate at ease with. The touch screen is active the whole time and is ultra sensitive and without the keypad locked you can find yourself opening up applications, ringing people, texting or whatever else by just picking it up! On the previous P990i, the touch screen did not activate unless you pulled down the flip to reveal the QWERTY keyboard behind. Having had a mobile phone for some 14 years, I'm way past the point of having to look at the keys for every letter when texting or making notes etc. I'm now having to undo and re-learn all that as the P1i has it's entire alphabet and punctuation set to the format of a QWERTY. Should be easy after spending so many hours at the pc. However it's taking a time getting used to it. The camera, which at 3.2mp is rather lacking by some standards, still takes a pretty decent pic. MP3 format and loads of memory for all those favourite songs. Doubles as a PDA, which I'm sure allows you to add a compatible sat nav as did/does the P990i My contacts are all listed by last name 1st and I can't seem to set the sim to default, having said that, I haven't been entirely through the manual to see if that can be changed, nor have I found a way to remove the 'today' feature from the main screen which I totally dislike. Personally if I could change anything, I would have the P990i design, with the flip down QWERTY as the optional alternative, all the new featurs from the P1i and solved the problem on the draining battery. Currently I am torn with wondering whether maybe it'll be better to try and have the old P990i fixed, or even buy another 1, and live with the battery issue like I did previously, or stick with the P1i and learn to live with the bits I don't like about it. Either way, there'll have to be a compromise.Read full review
