If you are a collector of Lionel electric trains, you need all sorts of cars to configure your train set. Once you have chosen your locomotive and caboose, the middle needs to be filled in with passenger cars, tanks, and freight cars. It is particularly fun to have replicas of a few of the classic postwar boxcars that were seen on trains during the 1950s and 1960s. This is what you get with Lionel’s Series VI 6464 set of cars. This Lionel set is a modern reproduction of three of the original toy boxcars that were produced in the middle of the 20th century. Each is packaged in an individual box with a clear window, so if you want to enjoy it on display, you do not have to unbox it. The set includes a New Haven, a Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT), and a Baltimore and Ohio Timesaver boxcar. Each is 10.75 inches long and is O-gauge, which makes it about 1:48 scale. This gauge is designed to be used with trains that run on tracks that are 1.25 inches wide between the outer rails. These scale models have realistic details that make them fun to play with, whatever your age. They have metal frames, so they are durable and hold their shape over time. The doors slide open and close along metallic door guides, permitting you to add a load of miniature freight. This will give them a bit of weight that will hold them to the track when they are running around a curve. If you are operating the cars empty, you may be able to give a lift to a drifter who is riding the rails. Each boxcar in this set has magnetic couplers, so it will stay securely hooked to the car in front and the car behind while your trains are moving. They have metal brake wheels, and they have quality die-cast sprung trucks for realistic operation. Each car has a different pattern of decoration that reflects that brand’s paint scheme of the 1950s and 1960s. The New Haven model is jet black with bright orange doors. The road name and number and logo of the line are in white. The MKT car is a solid color called Tuscan brown and has white lettering. The most colorful of the three is the Baltimore and Ohio Timesaver car. It is a bright royal blue with an orange streak down the side and a silver top. The road name and number are in white lettering, and there is an orange and white B and O Timesaver Service logo. Each boxcar has fine scale details, like rivets, ladders, and corrugations. If you have an O-gauge electric train that represents an earlier era, this Lionel Series VI 6464 is an ideal addition to your collection of railway accessories. Collectors can never have too many boxcars when the freight has to move, and you will get quality and variety in this set of three.
