This CANON Connect Station was advertised as "Brand *NEW*". It is not. First the power cord has been wrapped around two ferrite RF snap on cores used to block stray RF signals. They are not supplied from CANON. Also, there are two Energizer AAA batteries tapped together in the package, and not a single electronics company supplies Energizer batteries, none. They supply some off brand batteries, never Energizer. And, both batteries are badly corroded. So far the unit seems to be working.This CANON Connect Station was advertised as "Brand *NEW*". It is not. First the power cord has been wrapped around two ferrite RF snap on cores used to block stray RF signals. They are not supplied from CANON. Overpriced, few features, and worthless for videos
Canon markets this as Connect Station for Canon cameras and camcorders. It is actually poor at connecting to anything other than newer Canon cameras and camcorders... and to your TV via HDMI. I found that the only reliable file transfer to the PC is via SD card or CF card if your PC has a drive for that. The USB 2 transfers from camera/camcorder to the device are excruciatingly slow. For most camcorder users: forget it, this device will be useless. This is because there is no way to label and thereby organize your videos on the device. Everything is based on unlabelled visual thumbnaiIs: a thumbnail of a video translates to an unlabeled little picture of the FIRST FRAME of your video. There is no way to label them. As you can imagine in most cases this is useless for organizational ... Canon markets this as Connect Station for Canon cameras and camcorders. It is actually poor at connecting to anything other than newer Canon cameras and camcorders... and to your TV via HDMI. I happen to have a particular use for this related to getting videos off of my stationary (on a tripod) Canon camcorder (think talking head webcam videos). There is no fast and reliable way of getting videos off the consumer camcorder without either moving the camera to connect it to a computer in another room or popping an SD card out and in and out and into the camera constantly. I bought a used ConnectStation for around $100 and it is barely earning its keep at that price for my use case. 25 minute transfer times of a few short videos from the camcorder to the device are common.

Regret that Switch to Nikon
OK... if you have seen my past sell/buy activities... you know I recently switched from Canon EOS to Nikon Df ... and boy I didn't know this Canon EOS station was coming and it really rocks! I wish I knew! And how much I regret doing the switch! But too bad this EOS station's nicest features are only compatible with Canon EOS cameras... not with my Df. Still with this EOS station my 50" in family room just found a new life!!! I still have to take out the SD card from the Df and insert it into this station's SD card slot. Not very seamless. With a latest EOS camera, I wouldn't need to. The NFC/Wifi just takes care of it automatically. When will Nikon come out with a product like this? Time has changed, Nikon. Camera makers need to think about not only helping users enjoy shooting but also ... Everyone needs one!
Despite the bad reviews, I went ahead and purchased a new (open box) because videos take up too much of now very limited space on computers. I was so pleased with it and how it functioned that I have since bought 2 more (one a gift to my daughter) and intend to buy another as another gift before Christmas. It stores photos and videos according to the camera used (recognizing all makes and models) as well as according to the date downloaded. There's no "small, unlabeled thumbnails" because hooked up to the television, everything is large and labeled, and there are lots of options included in the internal software. I think some people just like to complain about everything, but I see no faults in this photo/video specific hard drive, and it is now priced much cheaper than the price of a ...
