Great for laptops or pc's that don't have HDMI out
Used this on a older laptop that I had laying around as a simple HTPC setup. Works fine except that when I use it with my AVR, every time I adjust the volume the screen blacks out and I have to wait a few seconds for the picture to re-appear. Other than that it works fine, as both audio and video playback fine.

Completely, Utterly Useless.
I bought this to use my laptop with an HDMI enabled TV set and also with a projector. Bottom line is its junk. I spent 5 hours and 2 trips to the store to buy cables thinking my cables were bad. Then contacted the TV manufacturer, then contacted the projector manufacturer. There was one possible solution offered by the TV manufacturer. That is that this device is NOT, NOT, NOT compatible with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. So before you buy this device, check the device you want to hook it up to to make sure that it does not require High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. If it does, then this will not work with it and you might as well forget it. Other possible solutions involved attempting to resize the screen resolution, dual and clone display settings, etc. A total ... I bought this to use my laptop with an HDMI enabled TV set and also with a projector. Bottom line is its junk. I spent 5 hours and 2 trips to the store to buy cables thinking my cables were bad. FYI "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection" is a preprogrammed hard-wired application built into HDMI devices that requires a code to be shared between the host device and the receiving device. In other words, if the two devices don't "handshake", you lose. In this case, the manufacturer claims that by connecting the computer to the HDMI port, the current output device (computer) revoked the security key for the receiver (TV set) so that the HDMI is likely PERMANENTLY disabled. Great. My advice is this: before you connect this device to your HDMI receiver whatever device it may be, check with the manufacturer and make sure it does not require encrypted security keys. Better still, save your money, time and frustration and find a device that is known to work with your other devices. Sad day for consumers. Seems this little programming trick with a suicide switch is designed to force you to buy new products even if your old product is perfectly well suited to function as is.

Ok, I was so excited about this, thinking finally I can watch all my downloaded vids or play my computer games on my 65" TV. For the 1st week it worked PERFECTLY. Not one flaw. I turned on my laptop, connected it to my TV and away we went. I was thrilled. Then over a week later. For no reason it stopped working. Couldn't get it to work in any ports on the tv or the laptop. The device didn't seem over heated. I tried changing it to other power outlet. Still would not turn back on. So it is great for 1 week. After that its complete garbage. Nothing more than a paperweight. So save your money. How is this item getting any positive reviews??? It arrived D.O.A. Still trying to figure out if this is a joke, or if these things are actually supposed to work. VGA to HDMI adapter works better than expected.
I used this part to interface a 5 year old computer with VGA out with a TV that is too new to have VGA in, HDMI only. I was a bit skeptical on how it might perform, I thought going with a video card might be best for video quality. But, I wanted the flexibility to be able to swap another PC with VGA out in if needed, when I work on them and run out of regular monitors to plug them into. Having the adapter covers the bases, I can support HDMI or VGA on the TV when needed. The price on this part is great and I figured that I would try it. I am glad I did, it performs well, I can't tell anything different from the picture on the screen or a regular monitor, colors line up, it has good resolution support, no fuzzy pixels or anything negative, no glitches in the video.
