I have been enjoying using the product. Out of the box, I chose to add a hook & loop backing pad from another vender, this has allowed me to switch to different pads very quickly. Polishing pads are a consumable item with this type of product. I feel that the machine would have been a better value if it had included the velcro backing pad with the kit to begin with.

I like this polisher very much. I bought it because I needed to remove the swirl marks on the black painted surface on my classic Chevy Malibu, that were caused by previously buffing it with a rotary style buffer. It worked fantastic and is easy to use. Took out all the swirl marks and with the right polishing pads, it left a nice high gloss finish. I would highly recommend it.

I'm just a guy looking for the right tools to make a job simpler. I recently picked up a 14- year old Mini Cooper that has spent it's entire life outside, was certainly never waxed- and probably only got washed by mother nature. It needed a good rubdown but I have a torn rotator cuff that makes this kind of work pretty hard to do (yeah-one of these days I'll get it fixed). I was worried about picking the wrong tool - I might make things worse and damage the paint (since I'm just a noob and have never used one). I wanted to use a machine polisher, but which one? After all of the reading online the majority said that you could not go wrong with this Porter Cable. I've had good luck with other Porter Cable tools (including a circular saw and cordless drill) so why not?. The price was right. One more thing- most reviewers said that I should also get a decent backing plate with hook and loop fasteners- and a few polishing pads. Just take your time and don't worry- the random orbit action won't damage the paint. They were right- An afternoon with this and some quality polishes have made all the difference in the world. It's a great tool- easy to use, lightweight, and powerful. Invest in some good pads and enjoy it!Read full review

This is a random orbital polisher, not a buffer or oscillating polisher. The difference; Random Orbital polishers cant harm the paint, mainly because theyre use to remove very small scratches. Yes, you can cut into clear coat but it takes a very long time. Oscillating Polishers (buffers) cut into the paint and rather quickly. those are the ones that are able to burn into paint very fast (if you dont know what youre doing.) This polisher is very good for begginers, and people who really only want to remove small spider webs or small scratches from their clear coat. It can even be used to sand down paint and wood (using Hook and Loop sandpaper sheets.)

High quality buffers can run over 300.00 but this ran 105.00. Great deal , quality you can feel. Have used it twice and it ran perfectly. Multiple speeds will allow a great job. Highly recommended.
