Excellent Basic Sony Reciever
Excellent replacement for my 15 year old Sony Receiver that died. easy hook up, sound is excellent, has built in setup features that made it a snap to get going.

Pros: powerful, auto set-up, good sound quality, easy menu navigation, sony name recognition/quality Cons: Only one digital coaxial input, HDMI pass through only --------- At this price point, I think all receivers only have HDMI pass through, so unless you are willing to spend more that's what you get. My only real complaint about this receiver is that it only has one digital coaxial input (it has two digital optical inputs), I think sony could have given this receiver one more coaxial input and still kept the price down. If you have a lot of gear to connect you should consider a more expensive receiver as this is a budget model. I have my dvd player, digital cable box and home theater PC all connected and I am out of digital inputs (there are one or two stereo inputs which I am not ... Good product, but with a few shortcomings
After much searching, I purchased the Sony STR510 5.1 receiver as a good compromise between features and cost. Now that I have lived with it for a few weeks, I can see why so many of them were returned and available on Ebay, and in Circuit City stores as 'open box' specials. It handles sound very well, and the self-setup is great. The quality of the sound is also very good. But on the switching side (both video and audio), it leaves something to be desired. While it has HDMI connections, the Sony does not use the HDMI cable for audio. You must use another cable for the audio. Also, it does not transmit all inputs to my video projector via the HDMI cable; I must use a separate cable connection to the projector for each input, and switch the projector inputs according to the source ... After much searching, I purchased the Sony STR510 5.1 receiver as a good compromise between features and cost. Great begining or upgrade
What I like most about this reciever is the fact that it will calibrate it's self with the included mic. This takes alot of time and tuning out of setting up a new reciever in my theater. With the HDMI through puts it makes an HD monitor look a lot less cluttered. I only wish it had more than two. With an X-Box 360 Elite a PS3, HD-DVR, and DVD you either have to run the cables directly to the monitor or go to Microcenter and purchase a HDMI seperator. This will allow you to connect up to 4 HDMI cables into one input. This is a very small drawback from such a great product.Sony has always made a quality pruduct for any price range and this reciever is no exception. If I didn't have all the toys that I do I wouldn't even mention the HDMI. Two is very reasonable for this price range and you ... The build quality and sound reproduction is on par to my THX processor that I use in my main theater. If this is your first surround processor/amplifier you wont believe how much you haven't heard! If you are upgrading an older reciever this is a great choice. I hope this helps.

Sony's budget 5.1 AV Receiver. I would rate this Basic AV box average however with its HDMI inputs and its automatic audio calibration I rate this receiver 4 out of 5. Although there are HDMI this is only for the video "Sorry... no Audio” You must pass audio through this receiver using digital optical or analog. I like this receiver because it is simple. This receiver is easy to install and you do not have to worry about getting lost in a sea inputs and controls. The only downside to this receiver is the fact that the DVD in does not use a light Optical sound for higher end bluray and standard DVD players. You must use the traditional Coax optical. Still for the price this is a very good AV receiver.Sony's budget 5.1 AV Receiver.
