The Collector's Encyclopedia of Noritake by J. V Patten
This book has beautiful pictures and covers different Noritake patterns. However, it does not have an index by plate name, and the one is does provide is not very helpful (which is by plate number). I was dissapointed that most of the patterns that we are familiar with and love here in the U.S. were not covered in this book. I thought it would be, as I purchased this book specifically by the printing date. I regret to report that I did not find much useful information in it, although it did explain the various "stamp" designs they use and their significance/origin. A very handy NORITAKE reference guide
If you've been intrigued by the interest in vintage Noritake, this reference book provides a comprehensive history of the Noritake name including an excellent guide to hallmarks & back stamps. - Details production from 1858 to 1926. - Includes many images of original Noritake advertising. - Hundreds of colorful product images with dates noted. There is even a section entitled "The Art of Entertaining Correctly in the 20's and 30's" which provides a bit of insight into how the lovely items were incorporated into every day life during the early twentieth century. A price guide is provided. In this edition, the values were updated in 1994 therefore it's important to note the term "guide".
