Synopsis
This book explores new social ties and forms of intimate bonding. Social and personal relationships are being profoundly transformed by changing lifestyles triggered by perceived crises in family, community, work and leisure, and by developments in global media technologies. Are friendships now being authenticated as non-hierarchical and flexible? Deborah Chambers draws on debates in social, feminist and queer theory to assess emerging practice, values and representations about friendship as relations of power, identity and resistance. The book recenters personal relationships within social and cultural theory., Deborah Chambers draws on the metaphor of friendship as a strategy for exploring contemporary changes in informal social ties. She traces the shift from fixed and permanent ties of family, neighbourhood and community to fluid and transient ties typified by computer mediated communication.

- d***u (2385)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseTook a while to arrive, but, great book at a great price, as described, good seller. Thanks! A previous book from this seller took only four days to be delivered, while this time it took nearly two weeks. Not sure what's up with that.
- u***u (739)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseCarefully packaged book- arrived wrapped in plastic bag and shipped in cardboard box. As a frequent book buyer I appreciate this as so many books are just crammed into a plastic shopping bag and sent on their way- sometimes always hanging out of the bag. I know that Midtown Book Seller books will arrive as described. Shipped promptly. I’d highly recommend them as a seller.
- 9***n (326)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseExcellent experience with this eBay used book seller! What impressed me most was the speed of shipping: the book arrived much earlier than expected. Furthermore, the packaging was careful and professional, ensuring the book arrived undamaged. Thanks a lot! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
