I got fuzzed
I decided to purchase this because it had a better price than brand new. With a name like super fuzz from a company like Voodoo lab, my expectations were high.The product did not meet my expectations. Perhaps I need a better amp to play it through, but it gave more of an overdrive sound than a real Fuzz or distortion. The resonance knob was another attraction which dissapointed. It did not vary the sound enough for me to rave. Strangely , the tone knob , which normally brightens a sound turned clockwise, sounded better turned counter clockwise. This pedal might kick in better harmonics if going into an overdriven amp. But going to a clean amp it was not as good as other pedals. I recently tried pedals by BBE and Seymor Duncan which gave me a much sought after fuzz sound. I believe they are ... I decided to purchase this because it had a better price than brand new. For the money, this is the best univibe type effect.
Ok. So it's really a one trick Pony. But it does do that trick flawlessly. Using 4 ldr units circled around a bulb, it achieves the warble the correct way. No more options other than speed or intensity. But that's ok for me. Especially because the sound quality is much better than expected. Open the enclosure for a look at a beautiful handwired board. Great pedal for 60's-70's-80's hard rock.
What a great pedal. I knew I'd never be able to spare the cash for a vintage Tone Bender/Colorsound Fuzz pedal so, I was going for that flavor from a modernish pedal. Voodoo Lab SuperFuzz gets me close enough. First plus, all the controls are on top. No trip pots in the pedal. I'm still acclimating but, it's pretty easy to switch settings between my single coil pickup guitar and my humbucker. There's a wide range of fuzz flavoring goodiness. The fuzz is consistently tight sounding so, if you're looking for a more loose sounding fuzz that blends your notes to to each other, this may not be your cup of tea. I play rock/hard rock and the Superfuzz give me a good range of tones in that area. The fuzz cleans up well using the guitar volume knob too, I've got several fuzz (MXR, Boss) type ... Great pedal!
Fantastic pedal. Nails that Univibe sound. My only complaint is that it's not silent when engaged. The hum is very quiet and manageable, but it's still there. Overall an amazing piece of gear.
