An aspiring writer falls under the spell of an aloof millionaire with designs for the young scribe's unhappily married cousin in director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Meanwhile, across the bay, Carraway's cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) flounders in her marriage to philandering aristocrat Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Inspired by the debauchery on display at Gatsby's wild parties and the lives of the wealthy elite, Carraway begins putting pen to paper as it gradually becomes clear that his cousin and the millionaire share a complicated romantic past that remains unresolved. Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, and Elizabeth Debicki co-star.

    The cast is beautiful as is the script. The scenes are a visual feast. It is as if Luhrmann reached into Fitzgerald's vision of the 20's, pulled out the heart of it and merged it with what society is today, over nine decades later. Alongside personal strife, we see social inequality, abuse of drugs and alcohol, political and moral corruption, and the failure of financial institutions and their responsibility to people. This movie will make you feel that these issues will always be relevant, and that not much changes from generation to generation. The achingly romantic and hopeful Gatsby is played impeccably by DiCaprio. He has aged into a beautiful man while still possessing those boyish good looks. The beginning of the movie has you itching to see Gatsby and hear him speak, ...

    A very fine adaptation of a masterfully well written book.

    Leonardo DiCaprio truly shines in Baz Luhrmann's, "The Great Gatsby". Leo does a phenomenal job portraying the late Jay Gatsby and projecting an alpha male image that only true quality men would want to emulate. Who wouldn't want Jay Gatsby's life of abundance, wealth, and good charm? Most people don't strive for the least, they go for the best and in this movie, it shows what the downfalls of having all this wealth can be like as well as the up swings. Great adaptation from the book as well with amazingly vivid cinematography. Next up, The Wolf of Wall St on Blue-Ray!
