Synopsis
Roger Baker's ground-breaking book, based on the research of his medical team, explains how emotional processing works and outlines problematic styles of emotional processing and their effects on quality of life. It presents a new way of understanding emotions and new insights into handling emotional pressures, and is illustrated throughout with examples from patients in psychological therapy and from everyday life. The book is divided into 4 parts: 1) The Secret Life of Emotions: introduces the theme of the book and shows how emotional and rational lives are equally valid 2) Dissolving Distress: looks at our second immune system, emotional processing, which helps us to absorb and break-down emotional hurts and strains 3) Healing through Feeling: the expression of emotions for good health and well-being 4) How to Sabotage Emotional Processing: a manual of bad practice., A new way of handling emotional pain and hurts. Based on groundbreaking psychological research. 'It's as if the body has a second immune system, an emotional system, devoted not to physical protection, but to protection from emotional hurt and trauma.' Dr Roger Baker. Is there a way of harnessing our emotions, of living in harmony with them and finding meaning and fulfilment through them? In Emotional Processing, Dr Roger Baker offers a new psychological approach. Basing his writing on twenty years of experience in therapy and the groundbreaking research he has undertaken with his research team, he explains how emotional processing works. He begins by examining the meaning and purpose of emotions, affirming the crucially important role they play in a full and healthy life. They are, he says, an advanced information system, not an opponent of rational thought. He then goes on to show how we have a sort of second immune system, able to absorb and break down emotional hurts and stress just as our first immune system deals with viruses and bacteria. When we move with this system of emotional processing, instead of blocking or hindering it, life's troubles and traumas can be so much more easily absorbed. Illustrated throughout with examples from patients in psychological therapy and from everyday life, Emotional Processing offers all of us new and important insights into the path to emotional well-being., Roger Baker's ground-breaking book, based on the research of his medical team, explains how emotional processing works and outlines problematic styles of emotional processing and their effects on quality of life. Book was "nearly new" and "as described" in listing. The advertised price was fair and a good value. Unfortunately, the seller's shipping partner was very slow to get the book packaged and shipped. Shipping took too long, and the tracking info gave no reliable info on shipping date, time in transit or expected delivery. Seller did everything right, but their shipping partner needs improvement. I recommend this seller to other eBay buyers....... just make sure you're okay with the shipping terms.

The listing was for a hardcover version of this book; however, I received a paperback. The Seller replied quickly to my question about this issue and issued a full refund - and let me keep the book. So, a diligent Seller for sure - and well packaged and reasonable timing on shipping. Thank you for the refund, and as you suggested, I'll likely donate this volume and seek the hardcover.

Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
