Great product and perfect size for my tween daughter. She loves it! Good quality, good sound, and great overall bass for beginners. The package is priced right and it's ideal if you don't have these useful items. The only thing that won't last long is the strap and I kept it as back up. I already replaced it after a few weeks of use. Also, you will have to buy an amp to be able to play it. Otherwise, great beginner's product!Great product and perfect size for my tween daughter. This great little bass feels great, 'short scale' means I have 23 frets! I fell in love the instant I first picked it up. Great set of diverse pickups with both 'in' at all times, and control on the body for each pickup. I know I can find a 'slightly' better bass...but I don't have $5000!

A 4 star bass at a 5 star price
I've been playing guitar bass for a while. I've built or rebuilt a couple of electrics in that time as well. So when I saw the Ibanez Mikro bass in my local store I could tell it was a quality instrument without even touching it. Being the holiday season I went looking for a deal, ending up on ebay where I found a new factory second at a discounted price... SCORE! It arrived having been set up prior to boxing but needing a minor neck adjustment. Once that was done she plays nearly flawlessly with only a little minor fret buzz which will either go away as I continue to break it in or require another minor neck adjustment. the neck itself is fast playing and a very shallow C shape. The tone is naturally bright and punchy which would make it nice for a little slap and pop style playing ... I've been playing guitar bass for a while. The tone is naturally bright and punchy which would make it nice for a little slap and pop style playing except the pickups can get in the way since the they are close together. It won't stop me from using the style in bursts but extended playing in the style can get difficult. The pickups are in a P/J configuration. After doing some research I found that the P pickup is approx a 6.6k output while the J (which is actually a neck pickup BTW) only has 4.4k output. Both use ceramic magnets. Probably due to the smaller than standard sized space for putting the pickups The tone can get a little too bright for my taste. This can be dialed out so it's no big deal but I get the feeling that swapping these out for a set with a little higher output say 7.5-9k and alnico magnets will round out the tone and allow for more space for slap and pop playing since the pu's can be lower in their pockets creating more space between them and the strings. This is an instrument which retails for $180 U.S. so there are a few other complaints like the volume and tone knobs are plastic. Replacements are available on Ebay for pocket change. The E and A bridge saddles don't intonate properly. One solution is to cut a couple mm's off the end of the screws, another would be to replace the bridge altogether. This is often a good idea on most basses in favor of one with more mass anyway (more mass= more sustain) so if it is possible to find a suitable replacement ( I suspect it is) which has more mass I would recommend doing it otherwise my first suggestion is the way to go and a perfectly fine option as this bridge is pretty good despite the 1 flaw. These points are all issues in a $500 bass, in one at this price they are negligible IMHO. All of these issues are cheap to fix, can be done by yourself, and every musician should know how to maintain their instrument anyway so do not let my comments deter you for buying one of these or the companion 5 string which is only $20 more and comes with a pickup upgrade to 2 J pickups with a tone booster control. The fact is this bass has excellent tone, plays fast, is well built, and as a bonus will fit into a standard electric guitar gig bag. This would be a good bass at $400-$500, at $180 it's a no brainer.

Great Little Bass
This thing Rocks, I purchased it as a backup Bass for practice etc. I like short scale because I recently switched from guitar to Bass and the transition with the short scale was a lot easier, it feels like a guitar with 4 strings, and if you a small guy like me it's a great fit, The neck is great and the tone is Ballsy !!!!!

Great little bass
I've been hacking around with guitars for over 40 years and never had any inclination to get a bass guitar until recently. Partly because of the size and weight, I think. I never saw myself standing up with a concrete block hanging from my neck, trying to pick out a bass line. Not my idea of fun at all. I always play sitting down, especially since I have grown old, and I do mean OLD. And then I discovered the short scale bass. Wow. Never even knew such a critter existed until a couple months ago. That opened up a whole new way of looking at the bass. A guitar-size instrument that will rattle my toes when I play. Now we're talking. Long story short - I got me an Ibanez GSRM20 in black. I absolutely love it. It has everything I need in a guitar - value, looks, playability, the whole nine ...
