Sony's SteadyShot system uses sophisticated motion sensors to remove unwanted picture shake. With Sony's Hyper-Precision CCD image sensors, you're not sacrificing image size or picture quality. Super NightShot enables you to shoot subjects up to 3 meters away in total darkness. Using Sony's unique Adaptive Frame Interpolation for better image quality, you can store hundreds of individual stills to the tape.     Great for archiving old Hi8 tapes to digital

    I got this to transfer the many Hi8 tapes I had into digital form. My old Hi8 camera was inoperable so I couldn't use it. So I didn't purchase this camera to record things, only to play back, but it has a lot of recording functions and bells and whistles that it looks better than the one I had. It's not too heavy for a Hi8 camera but of course, the fact that this holds tape, makes it heavier than the new digital ones that hold cards. Still, it's surprisingly small. I bought this because it was also Video 8 and has firewire ability. So I use a firewire plug to go directly out of the camera and into my older MacBook Pro (that has a firewire input) to import into Final Cut Pro 7. Since there's no timecode, I can't log and capture clips, but I can use the capture now function and even control ...

    Not as described/doesn't work properly

    Lots of problems with this. A new battery was included, but it fails to charge or the charging capability of the camera no longer function, so you must be plugged into a/c house current to use. Sometimes the picture jumps all over, and tape must be reloaded to work properly.

    HOPEFULLY THIS PRODUCT WILL LAST UNTIL I CAN COPY MY TAPES. THIS IS THE THIRD PURCHASE OF THIS PRODUCT AS THE PLAYBACK BECOMES UNSTEADY AND IS DIFFICULT TO USE AS A PLAYER. I FEEL THIS IS A BETTER UNIT THAN PREVIOUSLY. ALSO I PURCHASED THE ONE YEAR WARRENTY. I HAVE ALSO CLEANED THE HEADS WITHOUT MUCH SUCCESS. THIS PURCHASE WAS COMPLETE WITH ALL THE ASSESSORIES

    Digital 8 is still around !

    Slightly old technology, but the digital format is still pretty good if you can stand 3x2 images. Transfer to dvd with most dvd recorders is typically a breeze because of the direct firewire connection... One touch and you're done.

    Handycam that works like new

    It being a full ansemble with all accessories, cables and case complete, it was a great value. Most of these Handycams are isolated units or not working. This unit still performed like new. The battery was beyond rehabilitating, but thats not surprising as its like 30 years old. ut you can still can get them even today. I didn't shoot anything as I only need a playback unit, but I'm sure it would do well. It played a tape back perfectly while my $5.500 SONY unit could not. Very happy.
