    Profession Prime Lens

    I’ve been making photos since the 70’s and I have owned many prime lenses, mostly manual focus primes. This 56mm F/1.2 autofocus lens is stunning! The bokeh is smooth and creamy and the sharpness of this lens, in my opinion, is on par with the Canon L primes. If you can afford this lens, I highly recommend it for portrait and low light photography. I prefer a wider lens (16mm - 35mm) for all purpose shooting, but with some adjustments to the way you shoot, wonderful street and landscape compositions can be achieved!

    Best to buy it new

    The 56mm f/ 1.2 R lens I purchased claimed it was in "great condition". Obviously, "great condition" is objective. The lens sounds like a maraca when changing the f-stop, and has a hard time focusing. If I had known of the real condition of this lens, I wouldn't have bought it. I don't mind the "cosmetic" wear out, as long as it works properly, but this lens is frustrating to work with. I tried it a couple of times, and went back to my 18-55 lens, which is a pleasure to work with. After I open the box when the 5.6mm f/1.2 R lens arrived, I was dismayed to the sound of the f-stop ring. I read some reviews that mentioned the noise. Still, I could not believe Fuji would produce such a noisy lens. So, this week, I went to B&H and tested a new lens. The difference is remarkable. Hence, the ...

    very loud focusing

    The image quality is great but I thought there was something wrong with the lens when it showed up in the mail. It sounded like one of those old point and shoot cameras from the 90's with a very loud focusing motor as it hunts for focus. After reading other reviews on line it turns out this is just a loud lens (and I mean loud). My other two fuji lens, both f2.0, are almost silent so I was really surprised when this lens started hunting for focus sounding like my mom's old sewing machine.
