The MTMx3 mount from GrovTec provides three different ways to mount a sling or other accessories to your Remington 870 shotgun. The steel extended magazine tube mount allows use of a Picatinny rail, a push button base, or a standard locking swivel stud.
I'm not interested in 'Tacticool', I was seeking functional, I had the MagPul, didn't like it at all.
The main purpose of a shotgun sling is for carrying it, and this GroveTec helps sling it nice, tight and comfortable across your back, advancing it to one side as you start to approach the target is slick and clean because the sling is attached at the bottom of the tube, not the side. My Remmy 870 has the Wilson Combat +2 tube, the Grovetec slides on easy and tightens up cleanly Some ‘adjustment' is required (as with ANY barrel), which is very easy with small Channelocks covered by a rag. This is a strap steel part, heavy duty, and this is what it's made to do. The final result is a perfect very tight fit. The rail is to spec, works great with lasers and lights, I'm impressed with it, the quality was much higher than I expected. If you're not Happy with the MagPul, definitely try this!
Pros: eBay price better than retail
Cons: 1) Bolt is not long enough to use with included quick release and washer. If you want to use a quick release, buy something else. 2) Bolt hole in clamp is centered between barrel and magazine tube - presumably to work with any magazine extension and to allow mounting at different positions along barrel. However, even when fully tightened the assembly does not stay in place - it slides along barrel due to recoil. During a training class, it stayed in place for 150 birdshot, but once we fired 15 full power slugs and 30 OO buck it had slid just over an inch. Probably would have been worse with a flashlight attached - may have come off.
Unfortunately, the bolt hole in clamp was not offset like OEM Remington such that it rides in the magazine extension's groove to prevent sliding. I will either return it, toss it, or I may reuse the OEM clamp (since it's bolt hole is offset to mate with magazine extension's groove) by drilling out the threads in the clamp so the GroveTec bolt can just feed through and into the GrovTec picatinny rail. It still won't work with the quick release, but I don't plan to use it.
