The Sony Optiarc Blu-ray writer is an excellent DVD drive replacement, but I have not been able to test it's Blu-ray movie capability (I assume it's good, but I won't know until I get some Blu-ray player software installed). I can say that the disc reading performance is a big improvement over the previous Hitachi DVD drive that was installed.
Bought this for my new 17" notebook, to replace the standard DVD-RW drive. Works great. Plays Blu-Ray movies with superb clarity and sound. I have only burned one Blu-Ray-R disc (back up some pics and other personal items) and it worked faster than I thought and did a great job during the 'verification' process, using Nero software.
Most of the newer notebook 'rom doors' will fit this drive, so easy exchange. Be careful of the plastic tabs on the front carrier cover as they can break if you don't ease them out slowly. Should work with most of the newer notebooks on the market, regardless of size and processor power. A great buy.
