Very sturdy tuff phone, loaded with features

I LOVE THIS PHONE, it is so tough. I am a contractor and this phone is has been right there by my side, what a sturdy well built phone. I would buy this phone over and over again the key board makes texting orders in a breeze, the screen is bright and clear and doesn't easily scratch, the speakers are loud and clear and most of all the battery last and last even on the coldest of days. The only problem is the on/off button doesn't work sometimes when you press it, so if the screen goes dark you have to slide it open to awake the phone. However, I love this phone and would recommend this phone to anyone looking for a phone that is functional, good looking, full of features, the perfect size for fitting in the pocket and is TUFF..

    Motorola Droid 4

In cellphone technology terms, this phone is OBSOLESCENT. It is 2.5 years old in human years, but 10 years in cell phone time. This Droid 4 is my fourth unit. My daughter has one and the other two units are awaiting ribbon cables. Motorola has no interest in this phone. The Jellybean Android 4.1.2 version has been superseded by the KitKat, Lollipop and, now, the Marshmellow Android operating systems. All my four phones have been plagued by FREEZING APPS....especially the Contacts app and WhatsApp. In fact, just about all the apps would freeze at some time. I have written to Motorola numerous times, begging for help. They sent two fixes, but none worked. Since then, Motorola has either not solved the problem or is just ignoring me. My problem is my inability to use the touch screen keyboard. I just can't get used to it. Hence, my continued use of the Droid4. Yes...it is thick and heavy, but the Droid 4 Qwerty keyboard is still the best on the market. I want Motorola to produce the Droid 5. A 5 inch display, Marshmellow OS, 20mp and 8mp cameras, HSPA+ and all the features of the Samsung would make it a World hit. It would be great if Apps, messages and contacts could be saved on the mini SD card. I will not encourage anyone to buy such an old phone unless, like me, you are a slave to the Qwerty keyboard. If Motorola understood BRAND LOYALTY, they would have supported me until the Droid 5 came out..... Buy at your own risk..

  • Best camera for smartphone at decent price. slide out keyboard.

I first had a Xt894 from work. I used it till the battery broke. I then bought 2 refurbed ones and they worked great. Unfortunately my charger fried the electronics when water dripped on the charger. A New battery will set you back $50, so just buy a new refurbed one for $30. I used a Iphone 4 for about 6 months, but hated it. I am now at my 3rd Droid 4, and I still love it. only has 1 Gb of main mem, but its plenty for me to get SMS and phone, with some apps such as ebay, some games to keep me busy when i'm bored. got 2 for less than $30 each, compared to Moto X 2nd gen (my daughter has that one, but I think its too expensive at 200 on ebay ) The Droid 4 is already a few years old, but its still a good 4G LTE quad processor phone. It also comes with a mini HDMI port so you can hook it up to your HDMI tv. very sturdy. you can drop it several times without it being broken. The slide-out keyboard makes it a bit heavy to carry around. but if you have big fingers like me it works fine. Battery life could be better, but I have also 2 motorolla Power Banks, which me and my wife use on these phones or our shared tablet. For some reason, whenever my wife installs Facebook Messenger, it gets really slow, sometimes unresponsive. I am experimenting with DU app to see if i can tweak it, but I am avoiding Facebook Messanger on mine for now.

  • LOVE the keyboard!!

I can't rave enough about a REAL keyboard!!! I spent more time backspacing errors than sending messages on the new Turbo2 I got.... which is probably a great phone for some. I had my first Droid 4 for three years, refusing to upgrade after the normal 2-yr Verizon thing...... even after falling into a bucket of wet horse feed, I was able to dry it out, replace the battery they said was not replaceable, and it was great again! Then, it went into the rink a second time and the screen went too dark to read, so I gave up. I went for the Trubo2..... NOT! It was stolen, and though I'll pay for it, anyway, I replaced it with another Droid4...... one of my BEST decisions!!! I like the more compact size of the Droid 4, even though it's a little thicker and maybe an ounce heavier....felt like I was wearing a wall plaque on my belt with the Turbo2!! Droid4 gets better reception, too!!! The camera is great, and I'm pleased with the pics from it (the front-facing cam is kind of grainy, but I don't do selfies). The battery life is even a little better than what they said I'd get from Turbo2. I'm a phone/text/camera kinda user.....an occasional Internet search, but basically a PHONE!! It does all the hi-tech stuff, if you want, but you don't have to turn off a whole bunch of apps that use up your battery. I'm totally happy with the second one I have, and am considering buying another one for 'backup'.... in case I do something stupid and this one bites the big one.....NO ONE makes a phone with a REAL keyboard anymore!!!! BOOOOOOO!!! Get 'em while you CAN!!!......and hold on to 'em!!

  • great phone

Although most newer phones have larger screens, this droid 4 has so much more memory and the keyboard is nice aswell. I used droid. For years then switched to the ultra and could only fit half my music on it so iI couldn't save any new photos or anything new without ddeleting something..D-4 has a spot for memory card. 5 STARS !!!

  • Needed a physical keyboard

I lost my last phone and needed something to get me to the end of my current contract. This phone has stepped in, for the most part, nicely. It does have the maddening tendency to turn the screen off at intervals that were not set by me and appear to be quite random. Otherwise, it is my first functional smartphone and I am so excited to join the app age.

  • Only for thumbboard addicts

Probably, this device is faster with original operating system, but I'm not sure. Anyway, games run fast enough, and there's 1 Gbyte internal RAM, but the app switching is beyond imagination, it's extreme slow. The display is great, the... err, no more positive things. The battery is so-so. The keyboard is so-so. This is sad, because the only reason to buy this phone is the hard keyboard. But AFAIK this is the last Android phone with keyboard made by other than Blackberry.

  • Motorola Droid

Love it: its been difficult switching from a basic phone to a 4G smart phone but have been able to work with it. It has the largest qwerty also like the spelling features/corrections nice view area. The alert sounds for us seniors are a bit short so we will download some loader sounds. I like the size, not to large and not small as my great little Samsung. Overall, if something happens with it I would buy another!

  • Alright for 1st smartphone

I am still learning this phone. Although it is obsolete to most people it is a little overwhelming to me. I chose this phone because it has the qwerky board. I use to use the ENv3 which I liked & understood. LOL Hopefully one day I will master it & can move on to a newer phone, but this is just fine for now. :-)

  • Keyboard

I bought this on ebay because they don't sell the phones with keyboards anymore at Verizon. I don't like the touch phones because I keep hitting the wrong letters. I do much better with the keyboard. The guy at Verizon suggested I try ebay for it. This is the second droid I have had, it is just the updated version. So far so good. Sometimes the light goes off of the keyboard but usually comes right back on. I'm still trying to figure out how to use all the apps because I'm not very techy.
