About this product

Product Information

The Martin M400 80/20 Mandolin Strings are constructed out of a highly durable alloy. This special alloy enhances clarity when strummed to produce chords during performances. The winding on the strings is bronze, which helps musicians play chords that generate high-quality bass and treble notes. The alloy materials in these strings effectively produce precise sounds when multiple chords are played.

    Martin M400 Mandolin Strings

Love these strings...!! I can use the lighter gauge because my Mandolin is electric and sounds good in the PA or through a Spark amplifier

Never got to use the E strings

I read other reviews about these strings that went both directions, some saying they put them on all mandolins going out the door and others saying that the strings broke. Unfortunately, my results were the latter even though I slowly brought the strings up to pitch.. The E strings, .010 gauge, both broke 3 full notes before I got them up to "E." They didn't really break however, the loop began slipping closed until it was tight around the post on the tailpiece. Further tuning toward E and the twisted string on the loop just finally slid off, releasing the string. Again, both strings went. I also found that one of the A strings began some buzzing near the 10th & 11th fret. This was easily fixed by a slight lift on the bridge. They sound OK, but I wish I got a full 8 working instead ...

  • A little to light for regular playing

For the part time amature they are fine , however the serious player needs something a little more durable. The are a little touchy when restring, especially if you stretch them before bringing them up to final pitch. They will break a little easier than some of the other strings I have used. With all that being said I still think they are a good value and would buy them again. Keith Guinn

  • I Expected Better Quality From Martin Strings

Bought these mandolin strings because I always trusted the Martin name, however, these were of such poor quality, I will never buy Martin strings again. The loop ends on two of the brand new strings unraveled even before they reached their pitch during the initial stringing. Threw the whole set away and went with D'Addarios instead.

  • Light gauge for Martin mandolins

These are decent strings for the price. I use them exclusively on my bent top martin and sigma mandolins. They would be too light for a normal bluegrass mandolin. Quality is fine.
