Excellent product! I used it to paint a vintage Reynolds 531 type road bicycle frame.
After the recommended light sanding of the old paint finish, I cleaned the bicycle frame with isopropyl alcohol twice. Using the Rustoleum white primer, first., I then repainted a 1978 lugged (typical high quality tube connectors) road bicycle frame which had Reynolds 531 Chrome Molybdenum steel tubing. I used the Rustoleum Metallic Cobalt Blue color for basically three moderate coats. Remember, when painting tubing such as the diameter used on a vintage bicycle frame, 3/4 of the paint sprays right past the tubing, so you probably will need more paint than expected because of this much extra paint simply going past the item you are painting. Painting tubing properly is much different than painting a flat or nearly flat surface. Be sure to read all instructions on the can for best ... Paint only in a well-ventilated area, and away from any possible fume ignition source such as a running heater or running electric motor, etc. Turn all these items off if they are close enough to be exposed to some of the fumes produced by the paint. This paint product is noted to be good for surfaces that will not be exposed to temperatures of over 200 degrees F after the paint is dry (or cured). For this type of work, I used powder-free, disposable nitrile gloves (8 mil., industrial grade is what I use.), a good quality fume mask (or what they call a "respirator"), and full safety goggles that seal completely and have the two, small side vents. Also, I put cotton in both my ears. For best seal of your fume mask, always wash your face and shave completely smooth before putting on and using your mask. Women normally don't grow hair on their face, but men, as we all know, normally need to shave where the mask seals will be contacting. The Rustoleum sprayer head is of an excellent design and is accurate and comfortable to use. The spray pattern or angle is excellent. The chip resistance at approx. one week after the final coat was applied is about average. Not excellent, but reasonably good! Brush-on Rustoleum paint seems to be a little tougher when dry than the spray type. If left to cure for a few months, however, the sprayed paint may have improved chip resistance, however, I'm not sure, since I've only used brush-on Rustoleum for many years, and this is the first time I used the spray-type from the Rustoleum brand. Choose one of your favorite colors, paint properly, and, in my opinion, you should be well satisfied with the results. Overall, this product was an excellent choice for me to paint the bike frame and it looks great. I'm very happy with the results and color of this paint. The entire frame looks very evenly coated, with no runs anywhere, and the metallic color is excellent. The corners and crevices of all the tube connection areas (lugs) filled in just perfectly. Really nice turnout! Also, if you shine a halogen flashlight on this color paint, especially in a dark room, the paint turns a very-noticeable purple. Really cool color! Looks great in sunlight and LED light, too! I restored and customized this bike for riding only indoors while mounted on my bicycle trainer unit. (also called a resistance trainer) I hope my info has helped you with your decision. Best wishes on your next project and "stay safe"!
