An excellent tool and aid for increasing success in the field

First the good,... It is compact and lightweight. Easy to carry and use. Read the manual and apply the data that is given and chances of successful hunts should be exponentially increased. The bad,... It will not get a range if it has to be used through glass since glass is a solid object (get out of your vehicle). Overall I rate this 4 stars and it is a good way to get an idea of how far an object is away from you and what distance and angle is needed to overcome it. It will range reliably up to 1000 yards (1 km) in good conditions (slightly cloudy day).

  • Top critical review

    Having problems

Had this unit for app. 3 weeks. Good clarity, yardage seems accurate. Won't range through blind shoot through mesh, old Nikon would. During a recent hunt had some very lite fog would not give a yardage. On occasion in brush mode in the fog would get a reading but it was not accurate. Want to continue to use during other types of weather conditions before giving a complete review..

  • Good product for the money.

I Iike the range finder, but I wish the cross hairs and the letters would light up in a different color then black. A little hard to see in low light or with dark back drops. Everything else is great. Great size and super easy to use.

  • Works great for field archery. Ok for medium range precision rifle.

I bought this for 2 functions, 1st to use with recreational field archery and 2nd to range targets for medium range precision shooting. Inside 100 yard on "bow mode," the rangefinder works great and as advertised. Providing the angle and true horizontal distances is essential to help connect with your target and aids in the prevention of lost arrows ; ). When deploying this unit for longer distances, the rangefinder has a hard time getting a read/fix on non-reflective targets over 800ish yards. The 6x is decent magnification for checking your grouping (when using it archery) as far as 90 yards on a clear day. Be sure to adjust the eye piece to get the clearest picture. The glass resolution is overall a bit low but for the price range it's on par with other rangefinders. You can get a rangefinder with higher resolution glass but expect to pay 5 or 6 times what you will pay for this little tool. One unadvertised feature is that this rangefinder has a standard tripod threaded mounting point at the bottom of this unit. Time will tell how the battery life will be. The waterproofing looks like it will hold up to it's advertised claims.

  • Good value

It's not the most expensive rangefinder out there, but it certainly does the job and is a good value for the price. Well built too. I haven't had the chance to use it a ton, but I expect it will last a long time.

  • Compact and Fast!

The New 2017 Bushnell Scout 1000 DX has just about everything you need for either rifle or bow hunting in a very compact design. The increase in magnification from the original Scout is a definite plus and this thing is amazingly fast and accurate! Right now it is being used on the golf course, and I have already used it to range non-reflective objects out to 613 yards! Golf now hunting later; I am also an avid bow and rifle hunter and given its outstanding performance on the golf course am sure I will not be disappointed with its hunting applications. I really don’t know how you could beat this rangefinder at its current price point.

  • Scout DX 1000

Works well as far as I can tell. Haven't really used it much yet. One thing that bothered me the first day I got it,it was overcast and somewhat light fog and it wouldn't range a black cow behind my house at about 110yds.but the next day was a little sunny and it worked fine on the cattle. The previous day when it wouldn't do the cattle it worked on a black wood fencepost at about the same distance.Like it!

  • Excellent!

Used the rangefinder this evening Elk hunting. Haven't bagged one yet, but ranging deer and other landscape features was excellent. Seems to be right on!

  • Not the Newest on the Market, but still has plenty of value for practical application.

Scout DX 1000 has worked just fine for me. I did not buy it for it's maximum range, I bought it for the options which came with it. I just enter what time of ammo I am using, and the range finder gives me minutes/inches to compensate. I did get a scope on something out to 300 yards, and the DX found my target just fine. I am very happy with this product.

  • A must have for PCP air rifle hunting!

Accurate distance to a target is critical when air rifle hunting small game. Air rifles have a much greater trajectory than powder burning weapons, due to much lower velocity of the projectile. This range finder is quite accurate (within 1/2 yard) at the range typically of airgun shots (30 to 150 yards, with extreme range shots out to 200 yards). Accurate ranging is critical for hold over to compensate for pellet drop to achieve precise shot placement.
