Rygar for the Nintendo Entertainment System lets players dive into the fantasy world of Argool, a kingdom overrun by the evil Ligar, king of the beasts. In order to defeat this formidable enemy, the people of Argool resurrect Rygar, the most powerful warrior the land has ever known. The player takes on the role of Rygar and attempts to make it through five levels, each set in a different mystical realm. The object of each level is to attain a mystical weapon. Finally, Rygar must make it to the floating castle and defeat Ligar using the weapons he collected in previous levels. The two-dimensional, side-scrolling graphics of this game give it a classic arcade feel. It is rated E, which means it is suitable for players of all ages.

    One of the greatest action platformers for the NES

    Rygar for the NES has been my favorite NES game since I discovered it as a child, renting it from the local mom and pop VHS rental place. The music is epic. You can find YouTube videos of guitar players covering these tunes. The setting is grand in the way that classic NES games do so well: shows you just enough to set your imagination alight with bleak, sweeping landscapes in a ravaged world.

    Rygar is a pioneering classic of Metrovanias

    Rygar is one of the earliest (good) Metrovania games. It is an action-rpg 8-bit classic with items, exploration, and interesting bosses. The one drawback is that Rygar does not have a save feature. Despite that, those interested in beautiful background scrolling, compelling music, and a classic action rpg, then you must play this pioneer, which still holds up today!

    Amazing game!

    I remember growing up and this was definitely one of my number one games to go to! It is literally one of the best games ever created other than Blaster master! The music to this game always stood out to me and I still find myself even today humming the tunes at work!
