This camera takes excellent pictures, and is very easy to use. The housing is of less quality then my older Canon, but the pictures both with the digital zoom and without it are wonderful !

I am a first-time user of a camera with good Zoom capability. The Canon works well and produces great photos, but I found it too complex for a novice/beginner like me. I mean - good grief - the user manual was over 400 pages long! That said, if you are an enthusiast, functionality versus cost appears to be a great value to me.

Saw one reviewer pan this camera because there was some shake at full zoom. The zoom on this thing is HUGE - and while yes it does have image stabilization that's asking a bit too much for a hand held device at 50x zoom to not reflect what one is doing. I suppose if one were planning on taking video of such distance a tripod would alleviate that concern. Aside from that for what this camera does the used prices are pretty good - the 530hs perhaps even a better bang for the buck used. But great lens with great aperature. Doesn't fully replace an SLR but for SLR quality on the go without extra lenses plus a great video camera, this is still a nice way to go for a hybrid camera/video recorder
