About this product

Product Information

In this 1960s comedy, Freddy Benson (Marlon Brando) and Lawrence Jameson (David Niven) are two charming scoundrel gigolos who prey on wealthy single women as they vacation on the French Riviera. The pair join a playful competition with other con men to see who is best at the job, and the target is perkily cute Janet Walker (Shirley Jones), better known as the "American Soap Queen." They find, however, that claiming their "prize" becomes more difficult than it seems.

  • Bedtime Story: Basis of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Movie

I had heard about this movie for years but had been unable to find it until recently. I believe the original screenplay for this movie was written by the team of Stanley Shapiro and Paul Henning, two superb comedy writers of the era. The thing that intrigued me about this movie was that the script was later revised and made into the Michael Caine/Steve Martin hit, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't want to "spill the beans" if you have not seen either of these movies yet, but the main difference between the two scripts was the characterization of Janet, "the Soap Queen." (I liked the "Scoundrels" version better.) Another little tidbit of interest to me was that, according to the VHS box comments, this was the first time that Marlon Brando had ever ...

  • Great!
