This is BBC Drama at its very best. I can remember watching this when I was 8 years old and loving it. I had always wanted to see it again but it never seemed to be repeated by the BBC. We recently got Cable TV and noticed that UK TV Drama were showing it, I caught about the last two episodes. That was enough, it made my mind up that I had to have this classic on DVD. I have not been disappointed. This is suitable for those people who love quality BBC drama, and for lovers of Wartime dramas, but it also cleverly connects with ordinary life so its appeal is quite broad. See Clifford Rose's chilling portrayal of the Gestapo Officer Kessler that was so popular it spawned a sequel series entitled "Kessler". Angela Richards plays Monique Duchamps the barmaid at the Candide hotel. She plays the part brilliantly, often singing songs that she wrote herself specifically for the show. Fantastic value for money at £90 or less for all three series. I am 35 years old, and cannot imagine what the horrors of World War 2 must have been like, but this series has offered me an interesting insight. My Grandfather was in the RAF during World War 2 and had dealings with airmen who had crashed in europe, he told me that the programme was a good account of events as they frequently happened during the war.Read full review

I watched this series as a teenager at a friend's house as we didn't own a TV! Then I had the privilege of nursing one of the actors when he had surgery. I have often thought about the series, especially when my two daughters are avidly watching "Allo, Allo", and decided I must try and buy it on DVD. I was delighted to purchase it at such a good price on e-bay, and we have been enjoying watching it as a family when we can all be together. Although it is a bit dated, and the acting is not great, the story keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you can't wait for the next installment.
Brilliantly acted well constructed story which would not benefit from an updated film version.I just love it and watch again and again.
